    I have the same problem with my XPS. Contacted Dell and they replaced both the fan, the heatsink and even the hard disk (!)... without any result - the fan still kicks in in very few seconds. It has now come to a point that Dell says the fan noise is "normal" :(

    I tried to install this BIOS L502XA11, but get an error message saying "the service already exists"...

    Any other thoughts?

    @emaze
    try to reboot the machine and try again.
    if you still have issues you may have to try using a unnoficial way of flashing, like using a windows live CD and flash the bios from there.

    @capitankasar
    thanks for the tip, tried it, didn't work - my BIOS won't revert to anything older than A19.

    Dell support refuses to help me out here, even after I contacted some sales reps and accountant managers my partner regularly does business with. I give up. Never had such a bad experience with a PC manufacturer in my life - will never buy Dell again and will advice everybody to think twice to buying even this junk for an unreasonable price.

    My partner stops doing business with them as well. I hope many dissatisfied customers will follow.

    Hey guys, I found the solution!

    You just need to tip the XPS 90 degrees to the right and go lie sideways on the floor so you can view the screen in the right perspective. Guess what, the fan stops! No, just kidding... I'm going to ditch this piece of crap for a heavily undermarketed price (and interesting) on ebay and the like - too bad for the future user, but maybe this is the only way Dell gets more dissatisfied customers in the longer run.

    As a Dell customer, I tried to reply on posts at their own community forum, but for some reason my password/login doesn't work... Could it be you're being banned once you start to complain about manufacturer's failures?

    I hope Microsoft can learn you how to keep customers and run a professional support service.

    I just signed in and post beucase I have the solution to this problem. After months, even installed Windows 8, the problem remained, until... do the following.

    With the computer off, blow on the ventilation slot, as hard as you can, with your own mouth.

    Yes, I'm not kidding. Blow many times, (and close your eyes and don't breath because a lot of dust will jump).

    Then, try.

    It will work like magic. At least for me it was the case.

    Jolo.
