Hello guys, I've been searching the forums reading around and I'm wondering if there is a after market screen available for the XPS 15.
I have the i7 version with the 2 GB nvidia video card...
I've seen some mentions of the B156HW01 V.4 but no one has said if it's completely compatible or not...
Anyone have an answer ? Would greatly appreciate it !
Here is the particular site I'm looking to purchase from for the LCD panel.

Correct me if I make a mistake but,
You should be able to order the Full HD screen from XPS himself. I think there are other people here who have done the same thing.
Try to call to the XPS service line, and check out what they say.
Update this topic when you know more, because I too want to get a 1080p screen. -
B156HW01 v7, i was wrong on that one, sorry.
v4 is indentical except the matte coating. -
I think I would actually prefer a matte screen, my only question or concern is will the screen work with the laptop if I install it.
Pedram, I have called dell 3 times and they always beat around the bush with me about ordering the screen and the last time I called they wanted $360 for the screen. No way in hellllll I'm paying that. -
Also, the B156HW01 V.4 I have listed in my post, they say it is glossy..not matte ?
-
It is matte, take a look at the datasheet:
http://www.yslcd.com.tw/docs/product/B156HW01 V.4.pdf
The panel in the shop is probably a bait, they claim they sell the panel but instand send you an "compatible" one, they probably took that info from one of my posts.. Sad.
also, http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/laptop_panel_parts.htm -
I see, I have a ASUS 24" 1080P screen that is matte and has some of the best color I've seen and I love how the image seems so flat and clear. Would this be similar to the results I would get out of this screen ?
I guess the only question that remains does the LCD in fact work in the laptop if I was to order and install it. -
Be careful!

I am going to strip my machine down and try to figure out the problem. -
What asus? Try finding the model here:

That should give you an idea how good your desktop monitor is. -
Hello Everyone..Im new here,i just ordered a dell XPS 15 and the sales rep said i should read the forums. I found out my screen was also only 720p and was pretty bummed out. i got my xps for $599 through the outlett with a back lit keyboard so i figured i would just install the screen myself. I followed Darkstone (thanks)threads and called around and saw the B156hw01 V.4 was as close as i could get. I too called dell and asked about the screen from them but was told $356.00 and they only had 1 so id better hurry..so i thought about it and yesterday i was ready to pull the trigger and called to order. thats when it really got bad....i was on the phone from noon until about 6 pm. 5 dropped calls or on hold to nowhere...it was terrible BUT i fianally complained enough to get the 1080 B+RG LED fullHD screen for $220 AND they gave me $20 off a printer..SOOO keep trying and they will come down on that $360 price...sorry for the long winded post. Thanks guys for all the helpful info.

B156HW01 v7, as i said, i made some mistakes, v4 is the matte version of the high-gamut screen.
-
I understand that it's not a glossy LCD screen; we are on the same page in there.
My last question is simply, is it compatible ? Will the LCD work on the stock connector ? Has anyone tested this at all ? -
To answer your question, I have the ASUS MK241H TFT 24".
-
This is the response i got from Josh yesterday when i asked the same question as to direct replacement fit and plug in. hope this helps
"At this time the only screens we have are the B156HW01 V.4, which is the same screen that you have but in a matte not a glossy finish, but it has the same color characteristics and other features besides the finish. Right now we can't get in quantity the V.7 screens, so if you are interested in a V.4 which will be a straight swap in your machine they are $200 per screen
thanks
Josh
MYTHLOGIC Corporation" -
Yeah so Dell is charging $354 for the LCD if you buy directly from them, they will not budge. I also had warranty work done on my laptop 3 days after receving it and dangling that in their face and they still would not budge on the price for me...
I will no way pay $354 for the LCD. -
hello,
i;m also interested in upgrading and i did found this screen here not sure if it's compatible or not, really like someone to let me know before i buy it.
here is the link:

thanks. -
That looks like the same seller thats selling the B156HW01 v.4 on ebay. So its the matte version of the same screen, not glossy.
-
LOL, yep I laughed at your post but, I'm not laughing at you but with you cause hey, although you had to suffer through the phone support ordeal, you are getting what you wanted and at a fair price so, congrats to you!
You will not regret the 1080p upgrade.

They gave me the printer but made it look like they sold it to me on the invoice...Weird. also they gave me just about the cheapest printer they could. -
I tried two more times, I keep getting a woman everytime they get me to the spare parts dept and them women won't budge on that price. I tell them the ordeal I've been through with warranty and how my experience so far hasn't been the best and they just say well sir' I cannot lower the said price blah blah and refuse to lower for me. -
mhsbrian, sorry to hear they are not going down on that prioce for you. i guess i just got lucky the other day. its not over for me yet tho...i have to deal with owner install situation soon and im sure it will be another half day on hold.
-
Yeah, I'm not too worried about it though. I'm probably gonna but the V.4 of the screen and stick with the matte because I like the matte finish. The colors are more natural and less saturated.
I still am kinda leery though about purchasing, no one has said really that "Yes the v.4 of this panel will work with your laptop" seems people are dancing around a direct yes or no answer. -
I bit the bullet and ordered two B156HW01 v4 screens from MythLogic. They won't ship till next week tho. I hope they work *cross fingers*
edit: I just wanted to say that Josh from MythLogic was fast getting back to my questions and placing my order. Great customer service. -
Nice man, let us know how it turns out with your purchases !
Would like to see some pics as well. -
/me Following this thread too.
I live in the Netherlands and the extra price for a 1080p screen is €170. I'm ofcourse not willing to pay that and I'm looking for a decent priced screen to replace my 720p.
Hope somebody can confirm a successful replacement very soon!
edit: Maybe this (Dutch) site can help: Google Vertaling -
My shipment hasn't been sent yet, but I'll definitely be taking before and after pics.
-
Well I got my screens in but it looks like its not compatiable with the ribbon cable that comes with the 720p screen.
