The battery on my 2 year-old XPS 15 9530 is swelling severely and must be replaced. You can detect this problem visually if you open up the system, if you have trouble snapping the bottom back on, or if the touchpad is raised up to be level or above the palm rest.

After a 6 transfer phone tag through India I was informed that I can neither purchase a new battery or even pay Dell to have the service performed to replace the battery. The system is only a few months off warranty. I will have to purchase some off brand battery and hope for the best.

The fact that the batteries fail so soon and that Dell will not provide replacements confirms our worst fears about buying these new Dell's with internal batteries. They will not stand behind these machines for a reasonable system life. I don't recommend anyone buy these Dell systems, including the new XPS 13 and 15 models.

dell techs are typically idiots. Do you have the dell part number on the battery? Perhaps we can try to track one down that way.

Thanks for the offer of help. Some of the part numbers I've seen are: 245RR, 0H76MY, H76MV, 07D1WJ, 7D1WJ, T0TRM.

They are floating around on Ebay but I'd rather buy a legit OEM battery right from Dell.

Why not ask for an extended warranty, sometimes they will even though yours expired.

FYI searching for this "Genuine Dell H76MY T0TRM Y758W Battery for Dell XPS 15 9530 Precision M3800" will get you the battery you need.

Thanks but having to buy an overpriced warranty (if they'd let me) to get a replacement for a finite life part on a 2 year-old machine is not a good deal or the level of support we should expect for a premium laptop.

That search only gets me the "genuine" battery on amazon's UK site and some of the same ebay knockoff batteries. Nothing from Dell.

So open the case and get the part number?

Or keep at it with Dell as they do have them as people buy them when going from a small to large battery.
