Well I've tried to use the search function to find some peoples battery life with this combination but the search function just really sucks bad on this forum.

So what battery life can I expect with a few diff scenarios with the 15-460 +GT 420 with optimus + 9 cell battery.

    1) Low Brightness (20-30%), Wifi on, bluetooth off, no gaming, web browsing and IM, Word processing

2)same as above but high screen brightness (80-90%)

3)Low Brightness, wifi on, bluetooth off, Watching HD video on integrated graphics, web browsing, IM

    4)Same as above High brightness

5)Low brightness, wifi on, bluetooth off, Gaming on GT420, web browsing, IM

    6)Same as above high brightness

lol that thread says absolutely nothing about the dual core version. Guess you didn't even read what I was asking.

I really want to know that too. I'm trying to compare the battery life of XPS 14 and XPS 15.

I found many reviews out there mentioning about battery life, but they don't tell you much about what their brightness setting, CPU load, what they're doing with it, etc.
    :(

I have i5-460, 420m, 1080p, 9-cell. I get up to 6 hours with notepad/word open (and chrome idle in the background). Watching a movie (dvd quality) about 3 hours, maybe a little more, but definitely enough for a full movie. It usually lasts me the amount of time I use it when on the go, so I never _really_ need to worry about battery life that much when I'm doing something on the go.

    As for your specific scenarios:
    1. Brightness at 16% (lowest setting, but still very bright and usable): 6h16m
    2. Brightness at 84%: 4h14m
    3. Brightness at 16% watching standard definition TV show (Integrated graphics): 4h49m
    4. Brightness at 84% watching standard definition TV show: 3h31m
    5. Brightness at 16% playing NFS: Hot Pursuit (the new one): 2h24m
    6. Brightness at 84% playing NFS: Hot Pursuit: 2h09m

    Bonus
Brightness at 16% watching Inception 1080p with GPU turned on: 3h23m
    Brightness at 84% watching Inception 1080p: 2h47m

I did each test in succession while the battery life was above 90%, so it's more-or-less accurate. The time given is from Windows' built-in estimation. I hope this is what you were looking for.

Thanks, this is helpful for me.

How heavy is the laptop with the 9 cell? I read it boost from 5.4 to 5.75 lbs but I dont know what that means. Is it a to carry around in a backpack to class?

This is excelent info. I was looking for these information (but not properly, obviously, as I have not find this thread).
By coinsidence I order XPS 15 this morning. It was difficult to guess real life from "professional" reviews, as they barely inform truly about working hours of batteries. Some overexceed, some don't inform properly.
Your information seems to be very thorough.
It seemed that having just 6-cell might be enough (from those reviews I saw before), but you confirmed my worries, that 6-cell might not last enough for all day stay without power (non-continous use).
So I am happy to order 9-cell.
    Thanks
