    hi dear community,

I have the following problem: it is now for months, thats sometimes, when turning on the laptop, the display only shows weird lines and you can hear repetitive 8x beeping. Most of the time, I was able to "solve" the problem by turning the laptop on and out a few times, while changing the angle position of the screen. But now, that's not the case anymore. I am only able to turn the laptop on, when pressing with a screwdriver on the cable that comes out the display and connects to the mainboard. I guess that confirms my assumption that the cable has contact issues.

Now I wanted to ask, if it's possible to change that cable. As the other end of the cable is somewhere inside the display, i guess I would have to open it. Is that possible? Does someone of you have experience with that? And can I try this on my own, without risking to blow everything up ;) ? Or would it be better send it to Dell?

The laptop is 3 years old. So it has no warranty...

    Greetings,
    nividov

You will be better off buying a screen with cable as the glass is bonded on, the chance in someone with no clue how it comes apart pulling this off with the right tools is <25%

Dell wouldn't do this service they would swap the screen.

I agree with Gonzo. If you're going to try to do a self-repair, then it's better to get an entire screen with cable.

The two problems with trying to buy just the cable are:

    1) It's a lot of work to replace the cable, since you need to tear down the display assembly... which doesn't use screws, it uses a lot of adhesive (like smartphones). It's a pain-in-the-rear.

    2) There's a good chance that it isn't the CABLE that's damaged, but the actual connector on the display or motherboard. If that is the case, then obviously replacing just the cable won't fix anything.

And based on the price for a replacement screen, you should also take a look and decide if it's even worth trying to repair that laptop; or if you personally would be better off selling the damaged laptop as-is for parts, and buying a new one.

Hei :) thanks for the info. Worst case scenario for me... I think, I will buy a new screen, as the rest of the laptop is still running perfectly fine...
