    Hi,

I have and XPS 15 and have just managed to put a tiny scratch near the middle of the screen. It's small, but a tad annoying. I don't have the accidental damage cover. Can Dell change the glossy plastic screen or does the entire screen assembly have to be replaced?

    Cheers.

Any pics? Just the screen can be replaced. The plastics, bezel etc can be used.

Thanks for replying. I tried to take a photo, but the scratch is too small for my camera. It's about half the height of the cursor and near the middle of the screen, which is a pain. I'm guessing an official repair will be expensive? Really wishing I'd got the Complete Care now!

Your laptop is a machine that is made to be used, not looked at.

My first experience with a top of the line laptop was my XPS M170. This thing was gorgeous, and I wanted to keep it that way. Fast forward to one year into ownership; my laptop was dead! All of the time I spent cleaning, taking care of, and maintaining the pristine condition of this laptop, and it was now just a shiny brick. I had complete care, and the laptop was replaced, but it kind of made me stop and think... why keep something shiny just to stare at. Taking care of something is one thing, but being OCD about it's condition is another.

If it is not something that takes away from your the functionality of the laptop, I wouldn't worry about it a whole lot. It will get more scratches.

    /rant :)

If you have the 720p screen, see if you can tell them to put the 1080p screen in there as a replacement.

There's an enormous difference between the two screens.

You're right, of course. I was stressing because I don't earn much and after years of hand-me-downs I finally decided to buy a new, decent machine and saved long and hard to get it. I've already had the machine for a few months and eventually it will be replaced itself.

    Cheers :)

Already got the 1080p. It's a superb screen.
