Does the current L521X have the same speakers as the slightly older L502X ?

The L502X speakers are JBL speakers, excellent sound for a laptop.

Does the L521X have the same speakers?
If not, how to they compare to the JBL speakers and sub-woofer in the L502X ?

It does not have the same JBL speakers from the L502X. The L521X also does not have a subwoofer, just two speakers on the lower front edge of the laptop.

It's been a year or so since I've heard the L502X speakers in person, but I do remember them sounding excellent. I have an L521X, and while the speakers are pretty good for a laptop, they are no where near as good as the L502X JBL setup.

    Thank you!

Yes, I agree, the L502X speakers are excellent for a laptop. I have one and am surprised at how good the speaker sound is.

I was considering getting an L521X for a family member, or giving them my L502X and buying a new L521X for myself, so wanted to know if the speakers were as good.

Before you buy an L521X be sure to sample the gigantic thread about it here, there are issues to be aware of.

    - display quality
    - wifi quality
    - heat managment, causing CPU/GPU throttling in common gaming scenarios

Also, the L521x will likely be replaced by a Haswell-equipped XPS 15 in late October, and the new Inspiron 15 7000 series also just became available today starting at $649. It's also a thin aluminum laptop and will offer a 1080p touchscreen and GeForce 750M option soon. Either of those might be worth checking out if you aren't in a rush.

I just bought an L521x with the i5/630m (less throttling) for $560 barely used (built 8/2013). The only reason I've overlooked the known issues with it as c0derbear listed is the low price.

Thanks guys, that's good info. I'm not in a rush, so I'll wait. Thanks very much for the advice.
