I decided to go for the XPS 15 in December, but postponed due to SB coming.
Are there any new releases from other manufacturers I should be aware of? If not I will be buying the L502 as soon it's available in EU.

Mention what you want to be able to do on your Laptop then you may get some good comparisons.
-
If you don't mind the GPU, it's still a good choice. Though other manufactures will slowly come up with their SB equivalent of previous products, and probably some twists for better or worse.

I'll admit I'm a dell fanboy when it comes to having to buy prebuilt machines like laptops and some servers, but I still look around to make sure I'm getting what I paid for. Of course, being it IT, I work with and on them every day too. I think the xps 15 is an excellent all around computer. The only drawback is the gaming graphics. Not to say it won't play games well, it just doesn't have the latest and greatest cards in it. So, if you are looking for a great all around laptop with occasional gaming in mind, this is about the best choice IMO. If your looking for a gaming laptop, look at alienware or somewhere else.

I meant machines similar to the XPS 15 and it's market.
-
Tough to say, what games do you want to play? Latest and greatest or older stuff?
What applications do you run most frequently? Adobe? Virtual machines? Coding? -
Won't be needing the best gaming experience. Will be using virtual machines a lot. Good quality screen and resolution is a must.
-
If that's the case then this laptop would be perfect IMHO.
Cuz the GPU isn't all that great for gaming, but decent enough.
an i7 quad core would be good for VM's.
And Dell has some pretty nice screens from my past experience and from hanging out on this forum, seems like alot of people would agree. -
Only if you choose the right one ;p
-
yeah, make sure you get the 1080p screen

But have they improved design and quality control from the disastrous Studio XPS 16 series. (Wonderful machines, never got delivered, overheated when they did, throttled back due to inadequate power, eliminated the RGBLED screen, just as they started improving the quality and shipping larger power supplies.
I don't want another year like last year. Is there hope? How did you become a fanboy when their product quality and customer service was so awful? -
Besides a server I bought from dell about a year ago, I haven't bought anything from them in years. I build my own desktops. I work in IT and on computers, if something goes wrong I know how to fix it myself without dell's help. You can completely dissasemble the laptop, fix it, and have it back together in less than an hour if you know anything about them.
As far as the xps 16, my best friend bought one of them ( a 1647 to be exact) months ago. He's never had a single hiccup out of it as far as I know, but then again, he knows more about computers than I. -

Thanks for the response, but I do not know nearly as much about fixing broken computers as you or your friend. I am aware that the 1647 series were the first studios 16 XPS models that were relatively reliable. I take it your XPS 15 is fine?
The biggest problem with Dell is not so much their poor quality control (all the computer mfrs have that) but the way they block customers from speaking to anyone with the slightest bit of knowledge or talent to resolve problems. Oh well. Buying computers is not for the feint of heaart - or for those with a low tolerance for frustration or high blood pressure.
Funny, bought 9 HP machines and, though many had problems, all were resolved quickly and literally thousands of dolars in refunds were paid to "apologize for the inconvenience." This year, I've purchased 3 and have been told, in essence, to suck an egg if I don't like it!
XPS 15 still the best choice for me?
