Can't decide. XPS 17 has the better GPU but the XPS 15 is more portable and has the RGB (whatever it's called) screen. Portability isn't too much of a problem.

I'm buying from the outlet :( so it's been impossible to find a 555m with 3d screen (I want a 1080p screen, and heard AG screen complaints...). It's basically same price, same specs beside screen and GPU. XPS 15 RGB/540m, and XPS 17 3d screen/550m.

I'm really just basing what GPU I want by seeing if the GPU can play SC2 at 1080p on at least medium. No idea about the 540m/550m though...

Have you tried calling or chatting with one of the reps at the outlet to assist in finding what you really want?

I don't know for sure about SC2 since I haven't played it nor plan to, but the XPS 15's 525 and 540 should be able to handle it at 1080p on at least medium settings.

My laptop can play SC2 on medium (actually high with the shaders turned down to medium and the textures turned up to ultra) in 1920x1200, and the 525M/540M are both considerably more powerful than my GPU. My Quadro FX 770M is about equivalent to the GT 420M from last year's XPS 15. (edit: wait, no, my GPU is worse than the 420M)

I'm awaiting a refund from a laptop I just shipped back as a return before I place an order. window shopping right now. Does anyone know for sure about the 540?

EDIT: Edit that is reassuring, thanks.

FYI, there are complaints about the 3D screen too. The only real issue some people have with the AG screen is the coating. I am pretty picky about dust on my screen, but I quickly got used to the coating and like the screen.

SC2 is super CPU dependent so an i7 will eat it for snacks.

540m is indeed underpowered, but it has 0 troubles playing SC2.

xps 17 for bigger screen, awesome cpu, decent gpu, dual hdd = win

    /edit: I love the 3d screen even though I only use 2d...

Why would you want a bigger screen if it's worse quality?
