The speakers in XPS 15 are amazing and I love them. But the woofer generates quite a bit of vibration, especially when I turn up the volume. Is this safe for the hard drive, which are generally sensitive to external shocks?

I generally do not turn my sound up to where the bass starts distorting...
But the hard drive should be able to handle the vibration...

Hard drives are sensitive to up and down drops, or changes in elevation quickly, or side to side shakes...
The actuator arm on the hd is super close to the platter, but does not actually touch it, so it can read and write magnetic pulses...
Anything that causes the arm to 'bounce' on the platter will probably cause arm and platter damage. not good...
I think the xps15 has 'freefall' sensor safety somthing or other in it, but thats probably for quick changes in elevation (ie drop-n-catch etc)...

I would say hard drives will always tend to like less vibration of course, but since the laptop is rated to have the speakers and hd, it should be ok...
The question is do you want to turn up music when you want to, or not?
Is kind of the point of having good sound and bass... I do :)

If you were transferring alot of data (heavy read and write) to the drive, it may be a good idea to not have the sound cranked... my guess... good question...
