Hi all read some of the posts about the problem I'm having but non seem to resolve my problem. OK Dell just sent me a NEW XPS 1530 as a replacement for my previous 8600. I had purchased the HP W1907 just before the replacement and it worked perfect on the 8600 but on the XPS there is a lot of flicker :(

As other post have mentioned I too noticed if I unplug the power adapter from the XPS it goes away. I have been back and forth between Dell & HP changing setting, updating drivers, etc. etc. now Dell tells me it might be the motherboard  . OK don't believe that either, I plugged in another monitor 17" eMachine to the XPS and it doesn't flicker, I've plugged the monitor back into my 8600 and it still doesn't flicker all on the same power strip. Soooooo why am I having this problem only between the HP monitor & the XPS?

Help  Dell says it Hp's monitor, HP say's it's Dell

Sorry hit the wrong reply button, lol

Yes and Yes it's on a power back up - tried both with the back up and on the power strip directly into the outlet.

Try a different AC adapter if you possibly can.

Also try tweaking the refresh rate

Did that Tried that ;) I had an It guy here a few hours ago who is helping me config the new lap. We tried everything thing. Used the 8600's adapter-same thing. Power strip is a surge protector into outlet (grounded) into the power back up-grounded. plugged all alternatives (8600 & emachine) into same power strip & or power back up as the XPS & hp.

Tech tried changing refresh rate and display resolutions same results on the XPS to the HP and clear on the 8600 & emachine. Actual he was just as frustrated and suggested I google the problem and that's how I wound up here.

I realize this won't be much help, but I just purchased, yesterday, an HP w2207h monitor. I have an m1330 laptop, and no flicker... beautiful image on my hp screen.

Wish I could be more help... very strange.

First try with a different cable, maybe the cable you are using is not properly shielded. If that doesn’t work then try a different video interface (if you are using VGA then try HDMI>DVI or vice versa )

I've got the same problem with my external LG 226WP monitor. The cabling is fine. I've tried it on another laptop using the same VGA cable, and there's no intereference.

The VGA port right next to the power connector is no help. That's one pitfall I found with the XPS M1530. Most other laptops I have used have the connector further away from the power connector. Also, the fact it doesn't have a DVI-D port is disappointing, as VGA (D-Sub) is a damn old standard.

Try using an HDMI to DVI converter, that should do the trick. The picture will most likely be better too, since VGA is notorious for picking up intereference.

I’m using an iiyama 22” monitor with my M1330 without any interference. For the first couple of weeks after buying the monitor, I used the supplied VGA cable; but later bought a Monster Ultra HDMI -> DVI cable. However during those few weeks I didn’t notice any flickering at all; picture was a bit soft and there was a slight (almost negligible) ghosting effect, but it wasn’t bad at all (perfectly usable).

BTW M1330 also has the power plug right next to the VGA port, therefore I don’t think its an inherent fault in the design.

Hay gang, Just wanted to update on my monitor flicker problem. Developed another issue today when I tried to lower the resolution on the m1530 to see if that might be causing the problem on the monitor the monitor resized & shrunk  So back to Dell for another 1 1/2 hours trying to figure out why they were not funtioning independantly, OK the long and short they went in remotely and started to play with the resolutions & Nvida settings than the 1st tech called in a 2nd tech who also kept setting and unsetting the settings :D> no they never resolved why lowering the lap changed the monitor too but it did stop the flickering
