Having spent a while looking at what cooler to get for the 1530 and reading various contradictary things (especially about this cooler) I just thought I would post what I have found.

Due to most of the heat coming out of the top left vent of the 1530 and the layout of vents on the zalman, I tend to just pull the notebook forward a touch, it doesnt slide on the cooler so I dont find it a problem.

I think noisewise it is no louder than the fans on the 1530.

In terms of temperature I am very happy with the difference. I will be giving the vents a good clean this weekend too and will post any further temp drops.

    Idle (browsing etc)

If those gaming temperatures are too high it seems that i will have to give my notebook a good cleaning at some point soon. I was gaming earlier today and my temperatures were comparable to those that you posted.

I am guessing you are using the 6-cell battery on your M1530, because my Antec cooler, doesn't work as well as it should with my 9-cell battery listing the notebook up, away from the vents.

Yeh I am using the 6cell. I am happy if my gpu temps are in the 80s when gaming.

hey horace,, got the same xps 1530, and resulted in the exact same temperatues both idling and playing L4d2,, i took a screen shot and emailed it to dell support, i know laptops get hot, just wanted to increase the lifespan of componenets, so i asked them is there anything could do to reduce the temps, eg. re-apply termal paste, or get a better spec fan.. they emailed me right away asking my phone number, gave it to them and within 2 days they were ringing me to ask an appropiate day to have a technician round my house to replace the Motherboard and Heat sink.. they said those temperatures look strangly high and can be due to a faulty mobo. so they are coming round next week. i reccommend u do the same horce, my lappy is still under warrenty till next year so costs nothing, so check yours and give them an email.
    gd luck
