XPS 1530 - No Audio on Samsung TV (HDMI)

I have a Dell XPS 1530 with windows Vista (32)
I have been attempting to connect this laptop to my Samsung TV (model R87 range) via an HDMI connection
I can get the Video up and running without any problem at all. I have found getting the audio ‘hooked’ up is a little more involved – for me anyway!
I thought I had it fixed when using forums like these I found what had appeared to work for the vast majority of other people
> Right-click taskbar icon > Playback devices > Select enable and make default the HDMI (sigmatel High definition audio codec)
I have done this and the Settings are as follows;









Additional Info
There is activity in the volume slider bar for the HDMI when I play sound but nothing coming from the TV. My TV instructions say this ‘No additional Audio connection is needed for an HDMI to HDMI connection’
Is it anything to do with my Graphics drivers – Have nvidia 8600m GT, up to date drivers
I feel like I am so close and there is something simple I am missing and as always any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried plugging the HDMI cable, turning the TV on and then restarting the computer? On some TVs (mine included), the sound does not work through HDMI if you don't follow these steps in that order...

 

Thanks, however that did not work after numerous attempts!

Furthermore, I used my work laptop to rule out the TV being the problem and that fired up audio and all, 1st time.

Definitely to do with my XPS machine

Have you tried updating the driver for audio? Worst case is a defective HDMI port...which requires motherboard replacement.

 

Well within device manger settings the Sigmatel driver is up to date, cant find any later versions searching manually either

Is it anything to do with my graphics?

Could an earlier version of my Sigmatel Driver work?
