    Hi all,

Im new to these forums, and I must say that its nice to have a section dedicated to my laptop. Been looking for a site like this for ages.

Has anybody noticed that the USB ports on a XPS 1530 are underpowered?

If I plug a USB 2.0 Memory stick in the left side of the laptop it takes me about an hour to move a 1 gig file into the laptop. If I use the right hand side it only takes about 3-4 mins.

I have also noticed that when using all 3 ports at the same time, which I frequently do that the performance of my USB mouse deminishes. It becomes very laggy and unresponsive

This happens both on and off Mains power.

Are there any USB driver updates for me to check?

Or is it just something to live with?

On the copy that took an hour, was the memory stick the only USB device attached? Was the notebook on battery power, or plugged in? Is that transfer rate from the left-side port consistent every time? Both the top and bottom ports?

That doesn't seem normal at all. I just popped a usb flash dive in a left side port and copied a 726 MB file in under 2 minutes. I tried the other left port, and then the right port and got virtually the same speeds. I had nothing else plugged into the other ports.

Not sure what to tell you, other than it doesn't seem normal to me. But maybe having multiple devices plugged in simultaneously changes the equation somehow,

I've noticed some strange things with my M1530s USB ports. They are really slow at times and I'll occasionally get a pop up that says "This device could perform faster..."

I was looking through my hardware devices manager and saw something in the USB category about a USB2 Enhanced ... 283A and it was disabled. I right clicked an enabled it. I haven't used USB since then, but I wonder why it was disconnected. And there are only two USB2 devices but three ports. Perhaps the two on the left are one, I'm not sure.
