Hi there folks! Just wanted a general opinion from the benchmark gods in here.

Just ran 3DMark06 on my new XPS1530 (T9300/8600GT/4GB RAM/Vista Ultimate) and got this result: 5469 (see attachment). Drivers 175.70.

Was simply wondering if this was an average score for this notebook, better than average, or junk.

Your opinions and comments are welcome!

EDIT: See post 14 for 685/1000 OC results (6261 Marks)

I'm assuming you did some Overclocking rite? A standard 8600MGT should net around 4500 3D marks. My OC'd one surpasses 6000.

Oh god, what kind of core/clock are you using to get a 6000+ score?

I'm still wondering myself what you did with your brand new m1530 to get out of the box 5000+ 3Dmarks?
I thought a normal score would be around 4300 with your setup?

Actually @ 1280x800 he should hit right around 4500, give or take a 100.

He 100% did some OC'ing to net 5400. Probably around 600/800 ish.

Jfdube - the memory on your card was DDR2 or DDR3?

XPS 1530s offer DDR3 memory support only. Not DDR2. DDR2s would only be Vostros and Inspirons and probably other Dell series.

What program are you guys using to OC? Rivatuner or manually?

Also, did you guys reformat the Vista with the bloatware removal guide and do the tweaks that Les put up? Or are you guys just running these tests with the XPS out of the box.

...Reason I ask is because I'm hoping not to have to reformat out of the box... and which driver should I go with for my GPU?

Sorry for all the questions guys, I'm new, but thanks so much for any help!

Using Ntune. I did not reformat. Simply cleaned the system very well and stopped services, etc.

Wait what? My 1530 config that should be delivered on friday says DDR2. Are you sure that XPS 1530's only have DDR3?

It has the 8600M 256mb card.

What things did you clean? Just go to add/remove programs? Did you stop certain processes, etc.? Sorry I'm just looking forward to getting my first laptop and I want it perfect hehe.

Lancer, are you looking at the RAM? The ram is DDR2 (2GB, 3GB or 4GB of DDR2)... the video memory for the graphics card is GDDR3 which it won't say in your order form.

More than that. Removed crapware, CCleaner, compacted registry, defragged boot files, stopped most unnecessary services, and other tweaks.

    i get 4625 without OC and 5759 with 600/900.

Haven't really tried overclocking it more, and I don't usually play with oc :p (only "sometimes" for AC)

How did you compacted registry, deffragged boot files and which services did you stop? :D
