Right, i've received my brand new XPS 1530 from Dell a few days ago, and i have to say it is rather amazing. It is my first notebook, however i do have experience with desktops for about eight-ninie years, and i've tested/installed/repaired quite a few notebooks in the past as well. One thing for certain - it is very, very nice.

    SPECS:
T7250, 2GB DDR667, 8600M GT GDDR3, 250GB SATA-II in AHCI mode, 8xSuper Multi DVD RW SLOTLOAD, [/b], Wi-Fi a/b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, 2.0 MPIX Webcam, HDMI, Firewire, D-Sub, 3x USB 2.0, Cardreader, Expansion slot, Remote Control. Thats all packed in 15.4" and about 3kg weight.

The system is running Windows Vista Home Premium Clean install with format, DX10, Tweaked (services, startup progs, etc).

The 8600M GT runs at amazing 675 core(!) and 1800 mem(!!)
Top temps: 75c on GFX, 65c on Core2Duo CPU. HDD seems pretty cool with about 54c.

    Performance on stock:
    Aquamark: 86000
    3D Mark05: 8325
(STOCK FOR 8600M GT IS 475/700)

    Performance w OC:
    Aquamark: 97600 points
    3D Mark05: 10120 points

So anyone interested in XPS 1530, or anyone who has it and can compare experiences is very welcome to post. Also questions, suggestions and other input is welcome!

    UPDATE: 3dmark06

    3DMark Score 5566 3DMarks
    SM 2.0 Score 2402 Marks
    SM 3.0 Score 2291 Marks

Your hard drive should be around 40C. You might have it on a poorly ventilated surface.

I got 4200 on 3d Mark 06 with the newest drivers from Laptop video2go, I have the same specs as you except the 2.2ghz 4MB cache processor.

I ran 3D Mark on all tests, all high, 1440x900 resolution. What did you run yours on?

1280x800 - thats what my display native resolution is. I took it specially so that i would be able to game at a native resolution in the latest demanding titles.
That said, exluding Crysis which messes up with any machine. Read a review where a dude was running it with tripple SLI and still got minimum fps of 20. Crazy.

P.S. 54c on HDD after about 2 hours of burn in stress testing.

Nope no other secrets. Like i said use clean install of vista, install 169.09, install Rivatuner 2.06, Atitools to test stable OC speed and overclock your 8600M GT.

I guess i have a very lucky sample, both on core and memory.

    Drivers are using quality settings.

Argh. OCing the card just seems wrong. I'd do that, but doesn't it wear the card down A LOT faster?

Only if the OC causes the card to heat up a lot more than it normally does. Just keep an eye on the temperatures while you OC. My personal limit is that I don't like seeing temps higher than 80C on my 1530.

he says 1800 mhz on his video card ram because DDR ram at 900 mhz is effectivly 1800 mhz.

as far as overclocks, im able to get a stable 710/910 overclock on mine and score a 5750 in 1280X1024 3dmark 06. Ill probably only use 650/875 or so while im actually gaming. but this card seems to be able to be pushed quite a bit

Yeah that's pretty much what I assumed. I'm still not going to bother. I'll probably end up burning my laptop.

Are Vista and XP getting simular benchmark results these days or is there still a gap with XP having the lead?

XP still outperforms Vista on similar configurations. I thought Vista SP1 might solve this problem, but what I've read doesn't make me particularly optimistic.

He doesnt know how to set up his system then. Also I dont think Crysis supports a triple SLI setup - very few games do.
There is a vide on Youtube of somone running Crysis on a M1730 with the 8700 sli, and it was nice and smooth - the lowest FPS he got was 25fps. If thats possible I dont see why a high end desktop couldnt run it better.
I'll test it when I get my dual 8800GTX's in my system, and Im pretty confident I'l' get good frame rates with most settings at high.

True, but if you have a high Spec Vista machine, the performance difference is minor. I game on a Vista machine (specs below) and everything runs fine and very similar to what I would expect with XP SP2.

sorry for opening this thread again :D

i used 156.63 NVIDIA driver (Dell released) and i got 3DMark06 score:

    3DMark Score: 4351
    SM 2.0 Score: 1770
    SM 3.0 Score: 1599
    CPU Score: 2145

i know that there's more room for improvement, in my case i'm stock with this DELL release NVIDIA driver because this the only driver who play my BlueRay DVD....

my question is, how bad is my 3DMarks result compare to latest NVIDIA driver (177++)?

bmp41083, in your footnote you say you're running 800mhz ram in your m1530, can you confirm that the m1530 will natively support pc6400 modules as I thought it's limit was 667mhz. Also how much performance improvement do you notice in games such as cod4 when you overclock? or does the overclock only really improve the synthetic benchmarks?

    Thanks

Sweet, nice post. I was hoping this laptop I ordered would outperform my desktop by a lil bit and it looks like it does. My desktop only gets between 5000 and 6000 on 3dMark05 so this is good news. So overclocking your card improved your score almost 2000 ... incredible. I'll probably do a more minor overclock on mine, something more around 550/800 ... I really don't want to push it to the limit.

Riverpeth, make sure you're plugged in and you've got the power settings on High Performance mode. This is a mistake I've made quite a few times.

    And my 3dmark score: 5975
    SM2: 2499
    SM3: 2374
    CPU: 2156

OC'ed to 600/950. Specs in my sig.
