    Hi Guys,

Basically i want to know whether the LED displays in XPS 1530 do glare like the normal glossy screens?

I am currently a vostro 1510 user and thinking o changing to XPS 1530. I do mostly programming and do work long hours on my notebook. I am looking for a laptop with good build quality and the lcd screen.

I have almost went through the XPS threads and aware of the issues in XPS, but something is still pulling me to the darkside and try my luck.

My Vostro 1510 build quality is very flimsy i am not comfortable with that. I am just looking or a notebook which can take a reasonable amount of day to day torture.

One thing i like about Vostro 1510 is the matt screen. So i am very concerned about the glossy screen option in XPS. i know glossy screens my not be as good as anti glare screens, but how bad is the glare in LED Displays. Can the users help me?

PS. My first post here, so please pardon my non coherent messages on the post.

    Thanks
    Krish

Good question and I'll be interested in the answer myself lol.

I imagine people will fall over themselves recommending the thinkpad in your situation and that might not be far off.

Eh...I don't think the Thinkpads will solve your problem. The OP is looking for something tough and durable that can take a beating. While thinkpads can sorta do that, they are made out of cheaper plastic to make them lighter, which allows them to chip/dent/break more. My dad's coworker picked up his Thinkpad in the office by a corner and it broke off (he wasn't mishandling it, it just happened one day). Plus, Thinkpads aren't known to having very good screens.

I'd go with the XPS 1530. Not sure about the LED vs CCFL though.

I think you've got the technology a little confused.

Screens can either have a CCFL or LED backlight. They can then either have either a Glossy or Matte screen.

A Matte screen can be either CCFL or LED backlit, just as a Glossy screen can be.

The backlight will have no effect on the "glare". Whether you have a Matte or Glossy screen will determine how much glare you have to deal with.

Too many contrarians on this forum lol. I figured that cause he likes matte screens and spoke of durability a thinkpad might be a common suggestion. So lenovo's are made from cheap materials, that crosses them off my list. Thank you!
