So I have read all around NBR and from what i have collected, after purchasing my DELL from dell.com i SHOULD be eligible for x64 bit vista. Somebody told me that I just need to call Microsoft or dell and they will send me VISTA x64 for the price of shipping. I called dell and they told me this was not their problem, and i needed to contact Microsoft.... I contacted Microsoft and they told me that i had an OEM copy of vista, not a retail copy. All OEM copies come with 32bit, and in order for me to get my x64 bit, i would have to spend an extra $230 dollars on a vista retail copy, then mail it into them for the updated x64 bit version..... So my question is this...

Q: After seeing copious amounts of NBR users who claim to have x64 on their M1530, how many of you; Purchased Vista after you received your dell, had another copy of vista lying around, or did something else to get it?
ALSO: Do i only get x64 access if i bought ULTIMATE or will i receive it if i get premium?
If i really have to spend an extra 230 to get x64, i will not be opening my package when it arrives in the mail tomorrow and just refuse it and ask for a full refund from dell.

    IN RESPONSE TO CHELET :

How can i "find" it somewhere. I heard about this website, i am interested if microsoft still does this with XPS1530 vista serial keys... check it out and see if you can help. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/1033/ordermedia/default.mspx

Is that only for retail versions? Or will it work for my OEM version of dell?

ALSO: I know NOTHING about computer software ( especially laptops) I see alot of posts regarding this, but i have no idea what the hell they are talking about. where do i just " Download" it. Does anyone have any user friendly instructions on how to do this. I fully understand how to download all the subsequent drivers from another NBR post, but how do i actually get Vista x64 on my lappy!??

Wasn't there a thread about this not long ago?
I think the conclusion was that you could download X64 from wherever and as long as you used your own product key (the one that comes with your laptop), you're legal.

As long as you can find it somewhere, it will work fine with the key you have.

You are getting kind of rude man. If you wanted to move to x64 you probably should have done your research before you purchased, or asked Dell before you purchased. If you have a copy of Vista Ultimate it has both x32 and x64 copies on there. If you know nothing about computer software, then moving up to x64 is something you probably should not do. Because after you move to x64 now you have to find the correct drivers. Which will not be on the M1530 page, but you can find most compatible drivers on the M1330 page, and there is a thread in here with links to most if not all the drivers for the M1530 and x64.

But again, I still would not suggest you moving to x64. Computer companies make restore cd's etc.... For people like you that are not that familiar with software and OS's. You do realize that if you ever need tech support, and call in, they will not support you with OS config problems if you are running 64bit, correct? No it does not void your warranty, but they have no support setup for it.

thanks. I really did not mean to be rude to you in any way! I am just frustrated becuase 2 weeks ago i bought a sagaer that had the x64 version of vista on it. ( i returned it due to workmanship issues on the laptops hardware). I kinda expected dell to have the same.... I don't know much about x64, but i herd that it will be a great decrease in my gaming preformance. Is this correct?

If the game is x64 optimized, no.

Still, x64 is now okay for computer enthusiasts, but not ready for people who have difficulties with PC.

64 bit brings mostly 3 important things:
Fix the "year 2038" bug (2038 is 30 years away, so you can wait).
Allow more that 4 gb ram(currently, 2 gb is enough for most people)
    Better encryption

So there are not that many benefices to upgrade to x64. Spare yourself the hassle and go x86.

There are actually alot of benefits for x64. BUT gaming is not one of them.

There was a thread on this, something like "64-bit on M1530" or similar. I have x64 Vista Ultimate on mine and am happy. Drivers (display, webcam, fingerprint, etc.) were the obstacles at first though.
