Hi, all. I have been using an XPS m1530 as my primary laptop and has been always plugged in (less than 10 times completely drained).
Now, after 1 year i just reached 1h30mins with surfing & music streaming at 3 steps below the higher brightness (and at the energy save battery scheme)
In movie playback (from file, not dvd) i reach about the same
Isn't it extremely low? Have i destroyed my battery having it always plugged in?

that seems to be about right for the 9 cell. mines about 15 months old and has 40% battery loss and less than 2hr time left.
-
mine is dead after 14months, at full charge after disconnecting from power adapter-4mins left -
After searching for a bit it seems that you need to discharge and recharge the battery periodically to get better life out of it. Heat may have killed your battery prematurely.

However Dell says differently...I suppose so they can sell you a replacement sooner?

•Battery age - A battery's average life expectancy is 1 year. After this time, it is normal to experience a decrease in battery life.
•Battery age/life is in no way shortened, when the portable computer is directly connected to AC Power (power outlet) and continuously used for long period of time. The reason is that the system motherboard automatically stops power flow to battery, as soon the battery is fully charged. -
we'll have to switch to macs to get a decent battery time?
Only 90 minutes? It's about to stop being portable! -
1.Discharge the battery as much as you can.
2.Place in a sealed plastic bag.
3.Place the bag in your freezer for at least 24hours. Overnight is sometimes enough, but I leave it about a
week.
4.Take the bag out of the freezer and leave the battery to return to room temperature. Make sure you wipe off any
condensation from the battery contacts before you use it. I just leave them in the sun for a few hours.
5.Fully charge the battery, then run it down again, as low as you can get it. Repeat this charge-discharge cycle a
few times, and see if you get a longer life.
Your mileage will vary, but two of my 5-year-old batteries are now useful. I get between 2 and 4 hours from one of
them, depending on the load on my laptop. You can do this with cellphone batteries, or batteries from lots of other
gear. -

Mines 14 months old as well (9 cell) and it gets about 2.5 hours now, got 4.5 hours new.

I got a 9 cell battery with the notebook around April 2008 or so, my battery now lasts literally 20 mins after i unplug the charger?????? is the freezer thing worth the risk?

Let me know how the freezer trick goes. I'm intrigued.

I don't think it will change much...just gotta keep it away from the heat.
