Greetings all, from snowy Oklahoma...
I have a battery problem with a three-year-old Dell XPS M1530. I'm reasonably confident that the battery, which was an aftermarket battery, has just died, but I thought I'd post my experience here and see if anyone has any warnings or other thoughts.
I was using the laptop this morning, and the battery suddenly got *very* hot. Then, with no warning, the laptop shuts down. No bluescreen. No beeping. Nothing. The power button would not restart it.
I grabbed my AC power adapter, plugged it in, and the computer started with the power button. The battery icon in the system tray (Win7) said the battery was at "32%, Charging", but after just a few minutes, I noticed that it really wasn't charging - the percentage was stuck at 32%. Then, I inadvertently knocked the power plug out of the side, and the laptop shut down instantly.
So, on that basis, I am inferring that something went haywire inside the battery, hence the unusual heat, which then prevented it from discharging properly. The circuit in the battery that feeds back to the system that indicates it is accepting charge is, technically, still working, but the charging circuitry within the battery is fried.
My thought is that a new battery should solve the problem, and I just need to
deal with a power brick for a few days until it arrives. On AC, the unit works perfectly (and I'm using it to type this message). Anything else I need to be concerned about?
Thanks,
SoonerDave

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I recommend only OEM batteries, many 3rd party batteries are hard to get ahold of with that 3-5 year "warranty". At least with an OEM battery you have Dell whom you can voice your complaints to. There are plenty of OEM battery sellers on Ebay.
XPS 1530 battery issue..sanity check...
