I have been waiting to buy one of these for some time.
The grainy/sparkly Samsung screen issue has held me back, although looking at one in PC World last week I was quite impressed with the quality-no grain here, but couldn't see which brand of screen it was in system info or device manager.

This morning I spoke to Dell chat and below is the transcribe, edited slightly to remove my email.

    Copy Print Exit
09:53:52 machineman Initial Question/Comment: could you tell me the brand of screen fitted to the xps 1530?

09:58:48 Vijay_Nelli That was long back as there was some problem with the samsung screen and now DELL is using LG screens
10:00:13 machineman Is this absolutely definate, and does it apply to all resolutions?
10:00:43 Vijay_Nelli Could you help me with the E value code for the computer you are looking at please?
10:02:01 machineman I don't know the evalue code but it is the xps 1530 that is currently £699 on the Uk website
10:05:19 Vijay_Nelli Have you gone through the specifications of this computer?
10:05:39 machineman yes, why do you ask?
10:06:04 Vijay_Nelli Can you tell me when you will be able to place the order for this computer please?

    10:08:04 Vijay_Nelli I am sorry what
10:08:45 machineman will it definately have an LG screen no matter what resolution I choose?
10:09:24 Vijay_Nelli Yes ,as there was a problem with the Samsung we have stopped using them on our Laptops
10:10:13 machineman Great, perhaps you could help me decide on the correct resolution to choose
10:11:04 Vijay_Nelli Go for any thing above 1440x900
10:11:22 machineman what are the pros and cons between the standard 1200x800 and the 1440x900
10:12:59 Vijay_Nelli near the screen Options on the web page ,you will find a small tab "Help Me Choose" click on it and you will find all the details
10:14:36 machineman Ok, and finally I notice the current deal is due to change on the 11th june, am I likely to benefit from waiting 2 more days?
10:16:35 Vijay_Nelli Cant say as the offers change every Thursday

Ehhh...he is a sales person. They will tell you what you want to hear.

He might be telling the truth...but I have been lied to many times by Dell. They told me what I wanted to hear.

Good luck. Hopefully they do start selling only LG screens, or at least ones with no major issues.

    ^^^^

I was told that the M1730 was shipping with Sony LCD's!!! When guy was trying to make a sale.

In any case I won't get to worried about LG screens, on the M1730, the Samsung's give the best performance.

    True.
He is also a representative of Dell UK, and since I have his word in writing, if my XPS comes with anything but an LG screen, they will have to refund me.

He may be telling the truth, but I personally wouldn't trust these people as far as I could throw them. I'm pretty sure that some of the people there would tell you that the machine was powered by a nuclear reactor fed with Dairy Lea triangles if it meant a sale.

In the past 2 months I've bought 2 m1530s and neither of them has an LG... on the other hand they aren't Samsung either. With my first machine I had first class customer support and the second time it all got a bit messy and even going so far as one sales rep trying to get me to cancel the order and go through him (must be working on commission) when it really wasn't necessary. I did manage to get a good laugh out of an email apologising for the incontinence with my order though. Thankfully the laptop turned up dry.

Check the website/chat fine print. No they won't. I'm sure there is some disclaimer making sure they are covered.

online chat does not constitute having a written promise from Dell. you might have more of a case if they contradicted themselves on a spec sheet or web page. did you check that?

and like everyone else said, and just from this forum alone it's obvious Dell sales reps will lie about everything and anything if they feel they can swing a sale.

    enjoy your mystery screen.

Aside from parts, they also lie about free next day shipping too when they say it on the phone, but the actual says DHL Ground. Calling Customer Care to tell them that the rep you were with said he'd give you Next Day Shipping, the CSR says you cant change anything on an order once its placed.

The thing is, it was only on the XPS1530 1680x1050 Screens that the problems were occuring. Everyone freaks out about their screens being bad when they didn't even order one of those size screens. The reason they no longer ship these problem screens is b/c of the fact they discontinued selling that resolution for the 1530 about 2 weeks ago.

Do they get much commission for these things?
I log onto chat every once in a while (not for any real reason) and it's usually the first thing they say, before they even answer you

I got a SEC3157. So a Samsung. But it looks very good to me. I havent noticed any sort of graininess or backlight bleeding at all.

The screen is pretty much perfect
