    HI, all

My venerable XPS 1530 is now exhibiting a symptom I fear is likely not repairable short of replacing the mainboard: Without warning, while on battery, the system will completely die (and this has been seen on two different batteries). There is the slightest audible "chirp" from the system just before it shuts down, and the screen will turn white for about 2 seconds just after the power cuts. The system operates 100% normally if on external AC power.

The system will restart immediately upon power up, so that makes me suspect the on board power system has glitched. About the only other observation I can make is that the tendency seems to be that the sudden power-off happens in the latter-half of the battery's power cycle (less than half left), but that's by no means based on a careful study.

This particular machine was serviced once under the nVidia recall several months ago and has worked fine until this symptom started appearing about a month ago.

Has anyone here experienced similar problems, and found any kind of solution (other than a mainboard replacement)? This has been a super laptop and continues to meet my current needs, so replacing it with a new one isn't reallly an expense I had contemplated this year... :)
