Hello, first time poster, bit of a lurker previously!
I've recently taken the plunge on an XPS 1530, as my previous laptop of 5 years gave up the ghost. I don't tend to use it, it's mainly my girlfriend's machine so I went with a Dell in the hope it'd be nice and easy to use/set up etc.
At first everything was fine, but now my girlfriend reports that while she's playing games, occasionally while in IE, the touch pad will stop responding - it's random, doesn't appear to have external stimulus. It will come back a few seconds later, but obviously it's a huge irritation! It'll do this particular trick up to 4 times a day, usually twice a day.
Has anyone else had this issue? I've seen people resolve similar problems with BIOS 8, however when I called Dell they installed BIOS 9 and reinstalled the drivers, but that hasn't solved the problem.
I had a customer service phone call today when they completely ignored me saying it wasn't resolved, so I'm not sure what else I'll get out of Dell. Does anyone think this can be fixed, or should I start pestering for system replacement? If I go for system replacement, should I ask for refund and go else where, a different Dell in return, or just another XPS?
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

i have exactly the same issue, the touchpad just either stops or while using it, it acts irratically mad!
would also like other peoples thoughts on how this could be resolved.
I doubt that dell would replace a whole laptop BoboftheDead but if you do have a warranty option still then you can get them to your house if the issue cannot be resolved over the phone/e-mail. -
hey you could try this out. some people said this worked for them.
i know the guy sounds a little bit stoned but watever

I use an external mouse the majority of the time, but i have noticed that my touchpad will occassionaly either stop working for a few seconds or as you say act irratically, when not using an external mouse.

The 1530 is equipped with an Alps touchpad and unfortunately, they do suck compared to just about anything else out there. I've tried alternative drivers and alternative operating systems. It's hardware-based suck, and there isn't much that the consumer can do about it.
