Most importantly I like large fonts. I know it's best to run in the native resolution. I do mostly typing/emailing, so desgin work, no gaming or Video watching often, pretty much just work ....

My question is how much smaller would the text be on a 1440x900 LED screen compared to the standard 1200 x 800.

I went to Best Buy and Future Shop to compare screens but all the notebooks they have in the 15" screen size are 1200 x 800 ...

I don't want to sacrifice hardly any font size in order to gain the LED benefits of the 1440 x 900 ..

    What to do?

Um...other than actually seeing it, the best way to explain this is that 1440x900 is about 20% smaller than 1280x800.

I couldn't compare 1280x800 and 1440x900 side by side either because stores only carry 1280x800 for 15.4". But I was able to conclude that 1280x800 doesn't give me enough space to work with and that the fonts are too big and ugly, so I just ordered a 1440x900 and now I find it just right. I can still easily read the fonts, and LED's brightness is high. Maybe you can do the same without side by side comparison. Just decide whether 1280x800 is perfect looking to you, or if you can go for a bit more real estate. In my opinion, for a 15.4" screen you can't go wrong with 1440x900 if the other resolution that you're considering is 1280x800.

I got my 1440x900 recently. I was afraid font sizes would be too small too, but I believe it really is the perfect resolution for 15.4" widescreens. Font size is less of an issue nowadays with Firefox 3 scaling/zooming webpages flawlessly and with MS Office 2007 resizing the print view to the width of the screen.

the 1440 by 900 is the best by far, and i would recommend getting the LED one, its much brighter and power efficient

I highly recommend WSXGA+ as it offers the best combination in screen estate and allows very good multitasking. Though... LED is only for 1440... and it is very nice. I'd recommend the 1440x900 over the 1280 any day.

I went with 1440x900 without seeing it (yeah best buy is all I checked and they are all 1280 for 15") and I have no problems reading. I was a little worried at first but I'd say go for it. I only wish I had upgraded to the LED, but I think I spent more than enough.

1440x900 LED is probably the best choice you got with the XPS models. 1280 is too small and the full HD screens are wayy too small fonts and then you have the risk of grainy screens of you get the full HD one.

1280, as already stated, seems pretty low res and fonts and other objects appear big, clunky, and unrefined.
