I wanted to play Fable on a small trip, Only needed the battery to last like 1 hour... Not a problem there.

But.. The performance is horrible without my laptop(XPS 1530) plugged in.

As a test.. I have the setting on ''High performance''. Everything is maxed on Fable.. I will have the game running.. Smooth. Unplug the power while playing, And it slows to a slide show.

Whats wrong, Did I miss something simple?

    Thanks!

Check your temps. The processor is probably underclocking itself to prevent overheating. You might want to change your fan settings to keep it a bit cooler.

I'm running RM clock, And have checked temps and clock speeds during the game, Both which are normal. My CPU doesn't run above 55c when playing.

Which video driver are you using? I think I may know what your problem is.

What's your GPU temp? The GPU will also underclock itself from heating issues.

Yep. Thats your problem. Most 174.xx and 175.xx series drivers downclock on battery power (well known issue). Use the Dell 174.31 (on Dell's support site). No more problem.

Trust me. Been there. Done that.

I just tried that.. Wont work, As I am running 64 bit vista. Is there another way.. Or will I have to go back to 32 bit?

I'm going to try again, I might have downloaded the wrong one. Just a minute.

Download 174.31 from the 1330 support section. Make sure you uninstall any other driver first, run Driver Sweeper, CCcleaner, and install this one.

I'm uncertain if 174.31 from Dell also supports Vista 64 bit.

The other ultimate solution is to turn Powermizer off.

    Go to:

    \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{**unique to you for nvidia**}\0000\PerfLevelSrc

Change the value 3333 to 2222. Reboot.

This will prevent downclocking due to nvidia's powermizer.

You didn't post back last night, so can I assume that one of my solutions worked to your satisfaction?

    Cheers
