What I gathered from several chats with the Dell business support,

    - XPS 1530M until sometime in the late fall was not officially supported for Vista 64-bit. Machines bought during this time period therefore will not qualify for Vista 64-bit support from Dell for any reason whatsoever. Though the license key can work with Vista x64, and though Dell provides drivers on their web site, you cannot make calls to request x64 support, and Dell will officially say that in order to run a licensed Vista x64, you must purchase a retail copy of Vista. HOWEVER, in spite of all this hands off attitude, owners can still request that a 64-bit DVD be sent!

    - Those who bought the exact same laptop after 64-bit support was available, and who opted for the 64-bit SKU, are entitled to full phone/email/chat support for 64-bit, and will be told that their license key is 100% okay to use for installing Vista x64.

    How confusing!
