Ok!
So i think i have it working correctly![]()
First thing is iv been connected to my Wifi with exceptional speeds with no lag or drops while downloading / browsing etc since updating. I completely removed all traces of the Wireless N 6230 adapter from my system as well as the Bluetooth. Breakdown is below. Bear in mind with the speed tests they are bound to be variable because its wireless.
1) Go to - Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States] Ensure you choose XPS 15z Section
2) Download the two drivers pictured below

3) Should be left with the installs below.

4) Went to Programs & Featers - Removed the three pictured below

5) Restarted Laptop
6) Went to Device Manager in the Control Panel - Went to the Network Adaptor as per below and went to properties

7) Went to the driver tab and uninstalled it from there. Only then is it actually fully removed from your laptop. It should also dissapear from this list but do not panic - Note on the version seen below i took these screenshots after i got it working so you should be seeing a lower version number.

8) Restart Laptop
9) Install First - Network_Intel_W764_A06_Setup-668fh_ZPE
10) Install second - 0PDK4_A03_ZPE
11) Restart PC and should be ok. I have had the following Speed test results while downloading a larger 300MB file, general browsing and doing nothing. I also used a third speed test and got similar speeds.

Things to note: I am running the A08 bios update. I have restarted the laptop at least 5 times and have had no connection delay times when windows starts like i was having before. Instant interenet as soon as i boot up. I have not tried with gaming but will report when i do. I have not amended any other settings like power draw / distance etc.

MarkJD,
Did you have the crackling audio due to latency issues or just connectivity issues? The former is currently the problem on my laptop and I'm wondering if the steps to took resolved the crackling audio due to latency. -
Both issue are happening due to the card.

Bro, I checked it's happening even you can check on skype, at-least I talked to my friends daily 2 to 4 hr. Today discover new when the net connectivity problem occur yellow sign (No internet), I just put my laptop on lap suddenly the yellow sign disappear, but still I can in DPI latency, the red spikes.

I'm having the same problem with my XPS 15 which I received this week. I had a feeling it might be the wifi that was causing the problem, as my old Dell Inspiron initially had the same issues. Did what MarkJD suggest help? Any noise from Dell if they are going to release a driver to solve the issue?
-
And to answer your question, yes, this is caused by high network traffic over the WiFi card. I do not experience this problem when I am connected to a network via an Ethernet cable but do when I cam connected to a Wireless-N network. Google and download, "dpclat," which is a monitor that tracks the computer's latency. Try playing an HD video from YouTube or transferring a file over your network to generate high network traffic and open the program. If you see a ton of red bars, you'll see that high latency causes the audio crackling.
This issue, however, is still unresolved with my 15z. I have tried what MarkJD did and also tried:
- Restoring to a factory image
- Installing the latest drivers for my WiFi and Bluetooth card
- Replacing the Intel Centrino 6230 WiFi card with an identical that has a higher revision history
The user, Shonky, in this forum had a BRAND NEW XPS 15z shipped to him that also had the audio crackling problem. As a result, Dell put a Broadcom WiFi card with less capability in his computer. Although this resolved the issue, Dell is refusing to do the same with my computer.
At this point, I am willing to swap the Centrino 6230 card with the Broadcom card, even though I lose some capability. For the time being, I am going to wait for a driver that might solve this problem. Check the page that MarkJD posted to get the latest drivers for the WiFi card. Dell hasn't been clear as to when they will post new drivers, so check periodically. -
Why not we take the matter to the Bill ?

Hi all,
I've been watching this thread for a couple of months now and was completely astounded to find the Centrino 6230 N has such massive latency spikes. Like many others I'm a owner of a XPS 15z which suffers from audio issues when on wireless.
Based on the information in this thread and my personal findings I compiled a thread over on the Dell Community Forums detailing the latency issue regarding the Centrino 6230 N with evidence and screenshots of the general problem:
XPS 15z Audio Crackling/Stuttering with network traffic (Wireless Connection Latency Issue) - Laptop Audio Forum - Laptop - Dell Community
I've done this so we can place all the findings of this problem in one location as well as hopefully bring it to the attention of Dell.
Thanks,
James -
My friend I write many post in dell community but nothing happen. Here is the http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/636431-dell-xps-15z-issues-list.html
-
Yes there are many threads on the Dell forums, but the problem is the XPS 15z has different audio problems which have led several threads to merge and become messy which makes it hard to follow.
I created that thread to separate it from the many audio threads and identify the Centrino 6230N and latency as the key issue. -
BIOS A09 released 2nd Feb installed here.
No improvement. -
But to help, I have been posting on James' thread on the Dell Forum. Also, I have sent a message to the Dell rep who scheduled my repair and he said he would inform Engineering of the= thread to see if they can do anything. Unfortunately, the engineers think that the crackling audio is caused by an issue related to Windows 7 (which is unlikely).
The rep said that Intel and Dell are (supposedly) working together to release a new driver. Currently, there is not estimated ETA for the driver release. -
The only difference in BIOS A09 is fast as compare to A08. (Fast= The switching time is decrease between BIOS boot and window 7 boot screen. Means now window 7 screen come fast in front of you, previously with A08 was taking time.)

Hi everyone,
I had the same crackling audio problems as you guys and followed advise to install version 14.2.0.10 of Intel PROSet Wireless drivers released on 1 Sep 2011:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...dId=3315&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows 7 (64-bit)
the problem completely gone.
Credits go to peterberger user and his reply on 14 Dec 2011 4:03 PM:
Wireless card seems slow on my XPS 14z - Networking, Internet, Wireless Forum - Networking, Internet, Wireless - Dell Community
dpclat.exe now is green all the time. It seems that Intel screwed up some internal stuff in their 14.3 driver version. -
Nope. No difference on mine. I removed the driver completely, rebooted and reinstalled the 14.2.0.10 driver from Intel (think I'd done that before actually)
Same red bars... Sigh... -

to all people having this issue try disabling your nvidia graphics card and then run the latency test again as soon as i disabled my graphics card my latency returned to normal which suggests it may be nvidia driver related this was on my xps 15 but it should be the same for your systems aswell
-
-
no but i mean disable it in the device manager as the driver will still be running on your computer which will be causing the problems, iv went through every driver now and my latency is high with the geforce card enabled and it causes my sound to stutter through intel widi but as soon as i disable that nvidia card all issues go away
-
I understand what you meant and it doesn't make a difference disabling in Device Manager for me. I have already gone through disabling every single device one at a time.
I'm not using Intel WiDi either. This is using the Realtek audio -
must be a seperate issue for me then just thought id pass it on incase it did help yous, dunno what im meant to do with mine though because now im going to have to disable my nvidia card everytime i want to use intel widi
-
Well I haven't used Intel WiDi since I don't have a receiver. I might have that problem too
-
Some level of fix posted over here if you aren't following both threads:
XPS 15z Audio Crackling/Stuttering with network traffic over wireless (Latency Issue) - Laptop Audio Forum - Laptop - Dell Community
...about halfway down there is a post by richsark - for some reason I can't directly link to it. Seems to mostly work for me. Also James2k has updated the original post with the fix.
Please try and let us know what difference it makes for you. -
This is a little off topic but i thought i would post it. I was skimming the xps thread as i do once or twice a week just to keep up on things and came across this crackling audio issue. I have a XPS M1530 and when using a USB speaker with it i was having that crackling audio issue and for the life of me couldn't figure it out. The best i could come up with was usb noise but no real fix. Well after reading this thread i turned off my internal card a Dell 1505 wireless and issue was fixed. Plugged in my USB wireless adapter for streaming. Thanks for the help.
