Does anybody else here have an issue with distortion of the screen when opening the laptop for example? I push it up and back to open it and the screen is all distorted with all these different and weird colors, i have to pull it back towards me a little bit, and sometimes even back and forth a few times before it goes away....

    Common issue or no?

Never had this on my previous laptops. I seriously don't feel like dealing with Dell at this point.

It sounds to me like an issue with the display connection (ribbon) between the monitor and the motherboard...I don't think it's a software issue unfortunately.

Sounds like a problem in connection as supertoast said

Maybe the wire which connects mobo to monitor is getting chewed up

If it were software - when you take a screenshot, the distorted colors would come up on the picture too

    Hi Coderedpl,

As suggested by supertoast92 and hamzie this seems to be a connection problem. If this system is in Warranty it will be replaced as long as there is no physical damage. Also please use the below mentioned link to download/view the Service manual for XPS L511z. Please refer to the same if required.

    Documentation

I hope this helps. Please do write back in case you need any further assistance.

    Thanks & Regards

    Figured i'll update:
I took off the base cover, unplugged, air dusted the area, reconnected, tightened it all down and when I turned the computer back on, it was worse as it didn't go away. Then I loosened the corner screw where the display connection was, a little bit, and now it's been working fine.... =O
