First, I already disable Dell intelligent display.
It's such headache because it keeps dim and light up when I switch application.

For example, I have muti tabs in my IE 8, when I switch to different tabs, the system will first dim, then light up. :( :(

All these happen in battery mode.
Any other XPS 15z owners experience these?

Not sure how to fix it, but it could be either poor ambient light sensor calibration, or it could be a defective sensor. Maybe you should talk to Dell.

I don't know but I suspect this has something to do with power options in windows 7.

There is probably a setting you can adjust to fix this.

I think I read somewhere (someone can correct me if I'm wrong because I only just ordered my xps15z) but I think the screen has a sensor built into it wheich is supposed to auto adjust the screen contrast or brightness depending on the light in your room. (Maybe disable that option in windows and see if it improves the situation).

Sounds like it's dynamic black & contrast screwing things up as I dont believe this laptop has an ambient light sensor.

Try messing around in the Intel Display options and adjust the "Image enhancement" settings under "Media". There are settings for "Adaptive Contrast", "Auto Adjust" & "Film Mode Detection".

Had the same problem and just found the fix!

Go into the Intel Graphics and Media settings thing in Control Panel, choose advanced (if asked) and go to the Power tab on the left. Screen dims if not set to "Maximum Performance," so set it to that and no more dimming! ta da!

I still have this problem after enabling maximum performance, it appears that the dimming is separate from the laptop screens brightness setting, as the brightness does indeed stay at the highest setting.

The screen dims itself when there is darker stuff on screen, this is most noticeable when I have an empty white browser window, and minimize it to reveal my black desktop. The screen will dim gradually if I drag the browser off screen.

    Any suggestions?

I don't know if you already got the fix, but go to Dell Batter Meter and uncheck 'Enable Dell Intelligent Display in Battery Mode"
