I just received a new XPS 16 (i7-620m & ATI 5730) and when I connect my laptop to my Sony Bravia KDL40HX700 tv and play a movie on it, the sound drops after about 10-20 seconds for a quarter of a second and then resumes again.

After many trials, I worked out that it only does it when I have mains power connected to my laptop. But when I run just off the battery, the picture has a faint line across the middle and does not seem as good, but the sound sounds fine.

I have tried many HDMI cables and different TVs with the same result. Does anyone have any ideas on the issue?

No, I was using the driver that came with the laptop.

I ran through bipul_fx's thread on installing the ATi drivers from their website instead of Dell's.

Looks like the ATi drivers fixes the HDMI issue as I am no longer experiencing it. Really annoying that Dell are shipping their laptops with defective software.
