    Hey Guys,

I just got a Dell Studio XPS 1640 today and I am having a major issue with the speakers. It sounds as if the person who put the laptop together wired them incorrectly, the top speakers near the keyboard sounds very faint and tinny like a surround speaker on a home theater system, but the volume is very low and cannot hear it unless you put your ear up to the speakers. All of the sound is coming out the subwoofer on the bottom of the laptop and sounds seriously muffled, because obviously a subwoofer is for low sound and not for any kind of high frequency. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue, I know it is not the driver because I can plug in headphones and they sound fine. I tried updating the driver and changing some sound settings just for hahas and just like a I thought didn't change anything.

I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of this issue?

ive heard of alot of people having early problems with the sound of them.3 reasons,a) you bought yours early on and they never resolved the 'problem',you need to do some sound calibrating to get it to sound to your liking(most people) c) you just got unlucky with your specific order. My sxps1640 is coming in a couple of days so i cant say for sure but lets see wat others have to say.

I am convienced that it is not software of any kind, it is either 1. Bad Speakers (doubtful since both left and right are acting up), 2. The sub and speaker connections are swapped on the motherboard, 3. The audio board is bad (just saw it in the XPS 1640 Dell Service Manual).

So i fixed the issue, I just ripped the entire laptop apart. The idiot in Malaysia who put my laptop together had the keyboard pressing against the speaker wire, and was ripping the insulation off the wire, causing the wire to ground out. thus messing with the sound of the speakers, i'm glad it didn't do any damage.

Question now becomes: Is your left speaker now quite a bit louder then your right speaker?
