Hey all,
XPS 16, approximately 2 1/2 weeks old, using a 5100 wireless card.
I'm having ALOT of drop-off issues from my wireless network when my system is unplugged. Sounds really odd, and my system is either set to balanced or high performance when unplugged, but there it is.
When plugged in, I have yet to notice a dropoff. So I'm assuming they are connected.
It'll typically drop for about 2-5 minutes and then reconnect.
Any suggestions or tips? FYI, I have a strong signal when I'm dropping off...it's not like it's struggling to find the signal. We're talking full signal or "one bar" down on the broadcast meter.
Thanks!
Joe

Hm seems familiar though. I only used it once unplugged and had a terrible wireless connection. I thought it maybe was the distance (about 10 feet). But with the adapter plugged it was much better.
Don't know how it came. I sold it a week later -
Huh....well, it's quite annoying since I really don't want to NEED a plug for reliable wireless usage.
Any tips or ideas from anyone?

Yeah. Calling Dell is the best option I think

Apparently....I figured it might be a software issue, but since no wisdom is being imparted here maybe it's not...

Have you updated to the latest driver (v12.4.3.9):
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...All&OSFullName=All Operating Systems&lang=eng
And give this a try:
Device Manager - Network adapters - Intel WiFi link 5100 - Properties - Power Management - Untick 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'.
Also check power management is disabled on the advanced tab.
