    Hey there!

I have an XPS m1330 and it's cool but I dont like it because the hinge is naturally too loose so when I use it with my always-on carry case the screen just falls down and closes the lid when I'm lying on my bed due to gravity.

I also have a 1520 and the hinge is so stiff its awesome! You really need force to close it which is what I like!

Well I'm thinking of getting the XPS 16 and it looks like the same hinge design of the m1330 so I just want to know for those people who own the XPS 16 if the hinge is easily closed or not because if it is then I cant buy it. :(

    Thanks

Also if you can is the physical size of the 15.6" laptop the same as a 15.4" so I can use the same 15.4" carry case to carry it in?

Carrying case should work just fine! also the hinge is well supported and requires some force to push it closed.. i know what its like with the m1330 and this is much better... you will also like the feel... its a solid feeling machine.

The hinge is very firm. It requires just the right amount of force to open and close. I'm really happy with the hinges compared to other laptops I've had. I'm guessing the 15.6" is going to be .2" bigger. :p

I just received my 1640 last week, and I really enjoy it!

The lid is very "firm", and I have no problems with it, and for me comparing it with my 1530...I think I have better control with this than I did with the the 1530. : )

the hinge is good. The resistance/smoothness is just right. pulling it up from the closed position, you'll probably need a little extra torque to pull it open (not -that- much), but after that it's very good. I noticed the left hinge on mine tends to push "outward" by maybe 1 mm when i push the lid down...probably just design imperfection.

    No problem! :)

If you get it, and are looking for some nice sleeves...let me know..I've been on a "sleeve" hunting adventure & have come across some nice deals on some! :)

(My 15.4" backpack & messenger bag were a "tight fit" for the 1640). I am going to have to get good sleeve to place over for extra protection..to still use the b.pack / messenger bag. I am currently going to be getting a new Messenger Bag specifically made for the 1640 :)

I did find a nice Case (like a sleeve) for the 1640 @Dell that will work for a "carrying case". LINK Comes in a few other color choices!
