I'm wondering if it will be relatively painless to install a Intel® X25-E Extreme SSD (32GB) in my XPS 16.
Does anyone know if it's compatible?
Thanks!![]()

Should be. 2.5" drivers are all standard unless Dell did something funky with the XPS 16, which is not likely.

The only issue would be if the SXPS can actually use all of the speed of that SSD.

I put one in my 1340 and it is unbelievable fast. Took me all of ten minutes to, no problems at all.

If youre a media junkie, then, yea, its definitely too small. -
For me, I only need one external 500GB with all of my Docs, media, torrents, etc.
I only store programs and program data on my primary. Right now with W7 x64 installed, I've still got 14GB left from my 30GB partition. I guess it's because I only use a handful of programs and they are small in size.
I like to keep it simple and find that it's better for me to condense the amount of programs I use. Also, I never use System Restore or sleep/hibernate. -
I just installed my X25-E in my Dell SXPS 16 running W7 x64 b7048
I ran a quick HDTune bench and something's very wrong. I was expecting to atleast get an average of 190 read, but it's far less. I'm not sure if it's that my notebook cannot handle the speed, or maybe it's incompatible, or maybe the hdd's bad?
Any advice?

Did you figure out the problem? What are you going to do with the SSD, now?

I'm sending it back to Amazon for a refund and swapping my XPS 16 for another one with the 256gb SSD. It just seems like there is way more value for what you get. I think the 32gb is to small anyway lol. At least that way, the drive comes from Dell all configured and people have reported great speed.
Also, I'm switching from the 2.93ghz to the 2.66ghz to save a little money as I don't need the speed and it's just wasted.
After adjusting the colors for hours via ATI CCC, I think I have finally found a good compromise. I'm really not a pro graphics designer or anything, I don't even know how to use Photoshop (lol), but even so, the colors were just so off by default that it bugged me. Maybe my screen is defective though. It seems like the backlight bleed is getting worse on this thing as time goes on. hmm.... -

The Samsung is faster and and the transfer speeds are very predictable - no big spikes up or down. The Titan's transfer speeds were all over the map spiking high and dipping very low (ie 0). The Samsung uses a better controller - the Titan I think uses the notorious Jcoms in raid 0 - to get the speed up.
You will love the dependable speed of the Samsung. -
try the lastest intel matrix sotrage drivers... see if that changes anything for you

Have you tried putting it in a desktop to see if its faster there? -
I already send it back to
amazon and I'm going to try the Dell samsung 256gb ssd now.
