    Hi,

(I have the WLED 1600x900 screen)

I know the "I can't change my screen brightness" problem has been discussed at length here, and the solution is a monitor replacement, but my issue is slightly different:

Yesterday when I turned my computer on my screen seemed to stay permanently dim, as if the dim screen setting was active. In addition, while most colours seem fairly normal, the whites are badly washed out and appear almost blue.

I've tried changing my power settings, colour profile, unplugging computer/battery/power button trick, reinstalling brightness setting program, etc. No luck.

When I try and increase the brightness, the screen says it's already at max level (my brightness keys do in fact work, sadly).

On the weekend my XPS 16 WLED screen was significantly brighter than my external 24" LG backlight LCD. Now the LG is much, much brighter (LG brightness is unchanged, so I am assuming not a GPU issue).

I'm guessing the general suggestion will be "replace screen" but I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this problem before?

    Thanks!

I am having the EXACT same issue. Powered on my pc this morning and noticed the brightness is significantly lower that usual. The whites have a slight blue shade to them. Normally on full brightness the screen is almost too bright to even look at...but now it's probably 30% lighter that usual.

I am going to contact Dell now; I'll update you with their response.

Uninstalling Catalyst Control Panel resolved my issue. Something was wrong with the colour and brightness settings, and it was fixed by reinstalling CCP.

Scratch that. Reinstalling the Catalyst Control Panel messed up the screen again, it's stuck dim. SIGH!!!!

So for some reason the actual video card drivers make my screen dim. If they are uninstalled and I sit there with the default / generic drivers, the screen is back to its original brightness.

But as soon as I install any ATI drivers, with or without the Catalyst Control Centre, my screen gets very dim again.

    Any ideas? Help!

Sorry for the post spam, but resolved issue finally.

Went into CCC, options, preferences, restore factory defaults.

Somehow my colour settings must have been changed, yet they wouldn't go back to normal even after reboots/driver reinstalls. VERY strange, but at least it's fixed.
