    Hi there,

I'm looking to buy a new laptop and really like the XPS Studio 16. Does anyone have a XPS 16 with a 256GB SSD? Does this configuration help the cooling much?

    Thanks,

    Jim

How much overheating did you experience while using with SSD vs with no SSD?

hard drive or ssd has nothing to do with system overheating .
just open up the computer you'd know.

I have the 256gb ssd in the 1640. There is no overheating in the 1640. What you have is a concentration of heat under the trackpad and palmrest on some system configurations. (wireless 5300 seems to generate some heat)

About 2 days ago I went over to a friends house and he has the 320gb HDD in his 1640. There is a definately heat difference in the plam rest area when compared with my 1640 with the 256gb SSD. But this was just a subjective statement. When actually looking at the temps with HWmonitor. There was very little noticable difference in the actual tempatures.

He also games more than I do and has not seen this temps go over 70C which is really not that bad in my opinion. Its definately not overheating, not even close.

Overheating really means it is affecting the function of the systems. So much so that the system shuts down, throttles down or has some other thermal created fault.

There are many that are convinced that the 1640 has a heat "problem". The M1530 had a heat "problem", the 1640, in my opinion, does not.
