Hi all, I bought my xps 1640 2 years back (2009) and everything is working fine except the throttling problem.

So recently, I am having this black screen of death problem. Whenever I shut down my laptop or restart, my LCD will not turn on. I tried connecting it to a external monitor and it works. On the screen resolution, it seems that only 1 monitor is detected ( my external).

I have to resort to multiple restarts in order to get my screen to turn back on. Unfortunately my warranty is expired. What do you think is going on ? The screen is perfectly fine even if I hibernate or sleep, only restarting or shutting down.

    Help!

Perhaps you have a short somewhere? Have you tried making sure all your cables are seated right?

How ? I have no idea how to dissemble my laptop, but if it's short, why would it be perfectly fine if I don't turn it off/restart ?
