    Hi Guys,

I decided on posting my query in this thread, as I really hope to GOD it gets me quicker replies! Anyways, I have a DELL 1640 (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit). I don't think the rest of the configuration matters much WRT the kind of issue I have!

I have the DELL 370 internal Bluetooth module. As I installed the Windows 7, the BT defaulted to the Microsoft stack. I wanted to install the WIDCOMM stack from the DELL site. Downloaded it, ran, restarted, Still using the M$ Stack!

(NOTE: I have undertaken the following already, please check before advising further, thank you!)

    1. I removed all BT devices (enabled view hidden devices), deleted the WIDCOMM installation, restarted, reinstalled, no effect, still takes the M$ Stack!
    2. Ok, enough, I go to %windir%\inf directory, rename the bth.inf and bth.pnf files, remove all BT devices from Dev. Manager, restart.
    3. No M$ drivers installed now! Ah the relief! But now when i try to install the WIDCOMM drivers, it just cannot install them right! It shows my BT module with the yellow exclamation in the dev mgr...

I am at my wits end...

Simply speaking, I Just want to use the WIDCOMM stack in Windows 64 Bit Ultimate for my Dell 1640 XPS's BT 370 module, and not the M$ Stack...

A little help here, please!! Anyone...

Thanks if someone answers a weary man!

    CK
P.S. I have posted this at ( LINK) too. Am posting here again hoping a quicker response. Kindly excuse if any one is offended!

I am hoping someone else with the same problem can verify that this fix works. I have been up and running for 5 days now with no issues, I how ever am only running a Bluetooth mouse and my phone. Dell said they could not help since I did not so an upgrade through them. However the tech guy did stay on the phone with me for a half hour, trying to find out something. I think all he was doing is searching the internet like i did for ideas. If they understand there own products, driver updates or how these stupid machines work they might have better answers for everyone.

I went through the thread, Rob, I followed what is mentioned in the last comment (BT update firmware).

I am getting an error on doing the same at my end (see atrtachment) on running the DFU application.

After I close, the BT light on the front panel stays on till I shut down asn start the system. I have tried this 2wice, but to no avail...

PLease let me know if something else needs to be done...

    Regards.
    C

Edit: I have put in my query at the forum you pointed too...

Odd. My bluetooth doesn't work either. The icon lights up on the front of the computer, but I can't pair anything.

    Hey Guys,

I tried the DFU updatation too.. I haven't been successful. It starts up, stays at Status:Reconfiguration and then I get the message "DFU Wizard was interrupted" I then have to restart my system in order to make things as they were before. (See attachments for refernce)

Simply speaking, please help me replace the M$ BT stack with the Widdcom/Broadcom one.

    Thanks!

Oh, for the love of God, I have the same issue.

I got my Win7 upgrade from MSDNAA (free copy for tech students) and upgraded yesterday. I called Dell about getting some of the preinstalled software back on the machine, and when I mentioned the upgrade, they said it voided the warranty... ARGH.

So I manually downloaded and installed as much as I could get working on my XPS 1640. Then I realized, I have no Bluetooth. It says it doesn't exist. I tried going through the driver folder as someone suggested and the DFU file says it is the wrong one. I tried installing the software, and it asks me to turn on the BT... which won't turn on. I tried installing the mobile device thing, and it tells me that the device in unplugged. What the heck!!

Anyone have any more ideas? I am dying here!
    Feel free to PM me.
