Just wondering... When installing Windows 7, I want to do a clean install with a format 1st. Would you guys recommend keeping the recovery partition or just wipe out the entire harddrive?

Does anyone know how to perform a clean installation from the Win7 upgrade disk that I'll be getting? Is it even possible?

I think you go perform the upgrade, but after u are in the windows 7 install, choose to delete the partition etc like you would when you do a fresh install.
The thing about the "Upgrade" is basically just that it wants you to have a Windows already installed. -
~Ibrahim~ -
Yea, you take the upgrade disc, load it up as if you were doing an "upgrade". Once you're in the install, u can delete the partitions as if you were doing a clean install.

What partitions do I delete? I'll only have one at that time and that's where I installed the Win7 upgrade to.
In the Vista guides, you just don't enter your key at the install time. Amazingly, it lets you. Then after you get installed (as a clean install now), you just use "Anytime Upgrade" (or something) to go over to the real version. Apparently, the first install (where you DO NOT enter a key) is not able to be activated.
Again: all of this is from Vista, but I don't know how different Win7 will be for this workaround.

windows 7 pro x64 rtm here and everything works
bluetooth flawless and no problems syncing and transfering from phone... OSD is slightly buggy, sometimes it won't display when playing full screen movies etc but it seems to still change volume
but other than that it is flawless
mcafee antivirus enterprise 8.7i is W7 compatible, and it works great for me -
The OSD is weird for me as is in vista. It seems to show up when i click on the task bar and press the volume buttons. If I click on the desktop or on like Media Player Classic and try the volume buttons, nothing shows up but it still changes the volume.

Guys
Can someone kindly link me to the correct drivers for a 3670 512mb Windows 7 x64?
Just downloaded what I thought was the correct ones and got a memory dump mid install?
Also mid default (highest resolution) at the moment is 1366x768 but I have the RGBLED screen which I though was 1920x1080?
Am I missing something?
Many thanks -
OK looks like I have the wrong screen 1366x768 instead of 1920x1080 native!
Will call them tomorrow -

I registered for the free window 7 upgrade on the dell website about a week ago and got an email back saying that I will be notified when the Windows 7 is available for order on the Dell system, but I haven't gotten a response since. Anybody know how long it takes to have them send me the Windows 7 upgrade CD?
-
Well, I don't think they're going to be shipping out upgrade DVDs until October 22nd when 7 is released...
Or do they ship early? I was under the impression they would ship/arrive around the 22nd.

I went ahead and got a free copy of Windows 7 professional 64 bit from my school cause I couldn't wait any longer

Where do you get the A10 bios guys?
Also can someone link the latest and greatest drivers for the 3670, modded or otherwise?
Thanks -

Why bump a month old thread?
The A10 BIOS upgrade wasn't even available for download then. -
I have an 1640 loaded with Win7 64-bit Enterprise RTM on it. Everything works fine except for the CD/DVD and Sound. I have the latest drivers downloaded from Dell's site under Win7 64-bit. In device manager everything looks properly installed, but I have no sound on the computer and I cannot play/load any CD or DVD (let alone bluray).
Anyone run into these issues? Am I missing something that I should have done?
Thanks -

Thanks that solved the audio issue. I am going to try reinstalling quickset and see if that helps with the DVD/CD issue

HI Guys! I need your help. Last night I upgraded my XPS 1640, Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 (2.0GHz/1066Mhz FSB/3M L2 Cache) to Windows 7 from vista. Everything seems working fine except for the video clarity. I used to play videos using VLC player in Vista and it was crystal clear, the clarity of the video was like HD. But now after I upgraded it to Windows 7 somehow the video quality is bad , I see lines when I am viewing it in full screen I mean its not that crystal clear anymore.I am using the same VLC player.
Can you guys suggest me regarding this ?
Thank you -
I had a somewhat similar problem with my mouse on my previous laptop. I could either use my wireless mouse, or the touchpad, but not both at the same time. I understand that you actually want to use either or, but the biggest problem with that was that to switch between the two, I always had to reboot my computer, as when I unplugged my mouse, my computer somehow wasn't recognizing that I did it. It would only unable the touchpad after I rebooted it without the mouse plugged in.
I think the problem was the software that came with the mouse that I installed (I have no idea why I even bothered).
On my new laptop (XPS 1645, Windows 7), I just plugged the mouse in, and didn't mess with any software installation. Everything works great, and I can actually use the mouse and the touchpad at the same time. If I need the USB port for something else, I can simply unplug the mouse, and the touchpad keeps on working.
