I'm aware that the GPU is soldered to the mobo, and thus I'd have to replace said motherboard. I saw the part number "Y503R" associated with 1640 motherboards carrying the 4670 but I'm not sure if that's accurate.
I also found through Google and this site that a 1645 motherboard has a completely different shape than the 1640, but that some people have tried stuffing 1647 mobos into 1640s.
Point: Is it possible to shoehorn a 4670-bearing mobo into a 1640? I don't care about quads or i7--I have a desktop to do that kind of thing. I prefer higher-frequency dual cores since StarCraft II at present only uses two cores. A friend with a 1.6 quad stated his performance suffers as a result of the low CPU frequency so I'm not going to go there.
I also don't care if it's expensive (up to $300 for a new mobo is fine with me).

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
From what I can see from the service manual, it may work, but this post may have more views from the XPS subforum.
Starcraft 2 actually benefits from more cores. I went from a 4 core i7 940 to a 6 core i7 970, and I did see a noticeable improvement overall. You could go for the 740QM, Clarksfield i7s are dropping due to Sandy Bridge. -
Can you or someone else move the thread, then?
Thanks!
