G'day, my XPS 1645 with all the latest upgrades is basically dieing when Im playing computer games, I have it always with a cooling pad underneath and still it just burns up and throttles and the problem is I cant open it up and re-paste it without voiding the warranty, If I claimed the warranty

Would they give me a new gpu or just re-paste it for me..?

What other options do I have..

    THanks !

speak with tech support a few times and after you do they will suggest to replace the malfunctioning part.

however as far as doing the thermal paste, they will never know you did it as long as you put everything back together correctly. It is a pretty straightforward procedure.

You could make a big fuss about it and say the new 5730 does not heat up as much and is much more power efficient so all parties will be happier. but first dell will probably put you through a lot of unhelpful tests that i'm sure you've already tried.

Just RMA it to Dell for warranty repair. If they can't source parts anymore (highly unlikely) they will get you a replacement unit. Most likely they will repair your unit. Make sure you backup your data before you ship it out.
