    The threads regarding the issues with overheating/throttling are getting novel length to read through, I just wanted to know if someone can give me a summary on the following questions. I am receiving my 1645, i720 on March 31st and I'm wondering if I should just get a refund.

    In regards to the current issues, will doing the following things solve the problem;

    - Updating to the latest BIOS(I think it's A08)
    - Getting the 130W adapter
    - Replacing the stock thermal paste with something like AS5
    - Maybe invest in a decent notebook cooler.

    Will these things solve the issues this laptop is having?

    Thanks for your time!

    dude I recomand you to get a refund. Its not I am discouraging you..but mine bloody machine is buggy. I have done what ever I have found on the forums here or on the dell's official forums at dell support site. But one thing for sure that after getting your spxs 1645 you have to control your nerves...that is what I am trying to do....

    I received my Dell XPS 1645 on 3 march 2010. But hell it is a nigtmare machine for me.

    When ever I am using Cyberlink PowerDVD and trying to watch any dvd or movie it halts...the system goes out of its mind and cant do anything except simply remove the battery or unplug the wire to restart.

    What I have also noticed is that when ever windows try to update the system. The update always fails. The systems never shutdown or boot up successfully after updates. I have to wrestle with it....some times 2 to 3 times I have to reboot or force shut down...dont know what the hell is happening with me.

    Goodluck dude....

    Khurram,

    Have you tried updating the firmware on your DVD Drive? I had the same problem, and that fixed it in a jiffy.

    As always, I also recommend a clean install with the included OEM Windows 7 disk (not a restore) with the very newest drivers installed.

    Make sure to grab the chipset and IMSM drivers from Intel
    4670 drivers from ATI
    Rest from Dell

    And as suggested, 130W + A08 + DVD Firmware update.
