    Hi

Recently got this machine and so far really liking it bar wireless performance with 1030 card (but onto Dell for this) and now....discovering a very localised small circular raised bump on the track pad surface itself. (It was pointed out to me by my daughter, as its not my machine)

It is clearly seen on the track pad and felt, my concern is something underneath is not seated properly and wants out..or perhaps track pad was just defective at build time.

Am sending pics to Dell per their request.

If it is to be investigated/replaced is it a 'guts out' job or can track pad be accessed by an Engineer fairly easily?

Thanks in advance of any replies.

    Regards.

The track pad is built into the top panel (can't think of the name of it offhand) that includes the trim around the keyboard and such. The whole assembly is reasonably easy to remove, but I don't know how easily the trackpad comes off that. Dell will likely just send a whole assembly to swap out, it is definitely something a decent tech ought to be able to do. Just a series of snaps, a release lever under the primary HDD, and the ribbon cable to remove.

    My L501x had a bump.

It's very easy. I had mine replaced twice by a tech. It's called the palmrest assembly.

Thank you for your replies matmattd and smsmasters.

Why does the word 'snaps' fill me with dread..lol

To smsmasters... Did you ever find out what caused the bump in your L501x track pad to start with?

It shouldnt matter of course..am just curious.

    Regards.

That's the one...boy that's not a good sign for a Monday morning  Thanks.

The snaps are a little nerve-wracking the first time, but mine at least has been undone 3-4 times with no issues.

Sent Dell some pics and new palm rest coming with track pad attached.

    Seems fair enough to me.
