    Hi,
First of all, sorry if my english is not good, this is not my native language.
I'm posting this thread, cause i've got a slightly problem with my XPS 17 L702x. And despite searching around the web i didn't find similar topic on this.

    Here my configuration :

    CPU : i5-2410m
    GPU : GT 555m
    8 Go Ram

Actually the problem is, when i start playing a game, my CPU is going down to 1.7ghz, which means huge drop during game.
I try to clean up and apply new thermal paste, but i've still got this problem.

I have a laptop cooler, and my CPU is around 85°C during games (GPU is 50°). I don't know from where this problem occur, but it's a bit annoying.

If someone got an idea or the same problem?

check bios and windows power options, set everything to performance.

you can also use throtle stop software to force constant CPU speeds

    Thanks for the reply.
I check on bios (i've got the A19 modded one from here), and windows, and all is set to performance.

The thing is when i just start the computer and start a game, the CPU is running at normal frequency. But then it start to drop at 1.7ghz after time. I think the temperature is the problem.

But there is something i notice. In the BIOS the shutdown temperature is at 95°C, but i have pass this temperature according CoreTemp when i used throtle stop.

Is it possible that the CPU sensor got malfunction or something like that?

its posible that sensors malfunction, however is more probable it just overheats.

not sure about the xps 17, but the xps 15 had a dust filter sticker wich limited a lot the airflow, you can check it , getting a cooling pad may also help.

keep also the air holes clean and ensure there arent any near objets obstructing them.

do the laptop get very hot after gamming?

you can touch the chasis with your hand.

my xps 15 keep cool even while gamming after the bios undervolt mod and some hardware tweaks even with CPU and GPU overclock.

There is a dust filter on the XPS 17. I didn't try to remove it yet. (I'll try to remove the dust filter and see if it's enough.)
I have also already clean the dust inside and apply new thermal paste and got a cooling pad.
And now, during gaming, the chasis is really less hotter than before. I can put my hand on without burning has it was before.

Well before my CPU was at least at 50°C, now it's more around 40°C on desk. When playing of heavy task,it goes near 85-90°C. Which seems really high.
Is it possible that, with the OC of the GPU (with going 0.82v to 0.92v) can cause this overheat for the CPU?

well, overVolt the gpu will generate more heat.

    more voltage = more heat.

on the xps 15, the gpu and cpu share the same heatsink and Fan, so the temperature of one, affect also the another one.

in my case I undervolted my GPU and overclocked it too, now it does more than before and generate less heat.

however your OC may get unstable with lower voltage, you can try.

    Hi,

I've got a problem during closing the computer. Since i open it 3 times i broke a cable. The one used for the power button.

    It's the E221612-S.

I look on the internet for buying a new one, but i can't find one with enough lenght. (30cm) and that could be shipped to France. Any idea where i can find one?
