I decided to run a few benchmarks on this system as I haven't seen much out there for the 3GB GT555m card installed on the new XPS L702x systems.

The one I have is the 1600x900 screen so if you have a 1920x1080 then your results may vary:

    3dMark06:
    Normal - 12,100
    OC'd 650/950 - 13,112
    OC'd 720/1000 - 14,132 <---This is seems stable

    Temps with this were:
    GPU: 68C
    CPU: 76, 78, 78, 82

Note, this was not using a chill pad.

    Street Fighter IV:
    OC'd, Highest Settings with 8xAA averaged 57FPS

    Resident Evil V:
OC'd 650/950: Highest Settings, 2xAA and Motion Blur ON averaged 50FPS

I was VERY impressed compared to the GT540m that I had in my old system. Especially with the temps, since they never hit 70C

Yeah I ran them a few times to be sure. I'm quite happy with them!

I am running at whatever the default is though, I don't know what Notebookcheck is running at. I bet they are runnign at a higher resolution.

But right now I've got it set to the 750/1000 default as it seems to run like butter.

My Score with the FFIV Benchmark was 2994 on Low. It says that I was using the Intel Chip though....I don't think that's true however.

Is that result at your highest OC settings?

2994 is pretty impressive, i think is OC result. Similar grade amd 6770m only did 2500 on Low.

    Generally, at Low, 460m can do about 3300, 485m @ 4850. 6970m @ 5400. All 2820QM.

wow, that is very good score, even though 445m is slower than 555m in memory speed. both are based on desktop GT440.

i7-740m is also slower(?) than 2640qm, with that still can get result on par at 29++ marks. Even 460m + 740qm without OC did only 26++ lol...

How is the result without OC? is it about 2300?

I just ran the benchmark without overclock and I manage to get 2553.
Although my score for this benchmark is close to OC GT 555M, I can never get 14k+ on 3dmark06 though. Will only get about 12k+ with OC settings.

3dmark tested GPU mainly and CPU has less influence to the result.

FF14 tested the whole system. In this case, your CPU may be stronger than 2620qm :)

I asked for ff14 benchmark because that is the game i played :p . My new laptop coming in June is using M5950 (6770m) which is close to 555m in 3dmark so i wish to have a 'peek' of result first~

Found a website just now on ff14 high and low result on laptop. in japanese.

Yeah that score was with the highest OC, I've used that ALL DAY doing a bit of a burn in, and the laptop never got above 72C, and it's been running for about 5 hours now.

This OC seems to work well...I bet I could go higher if I wanted, I may have to check on that.

What software is everyone using for the OC? I assume that it is for the GT555m only.

    Thanks in advance...

It's just the Nvidia System tools, it's not for the GT555m it's for most Nvidia Chips I believe. I used it for the GT540m as well.

Somewhat related I want to post my repaste results, high recommending you take the time to do this if you have the ability to, regardless of overclock or not.

    Op's temps were:
    GPU: 68C
    CPU: 76, 78, 78, 82

    My stock temps were:
    GPU: 82C
    CPU: 92-95

    After repaste:
GPU: 59C max with or without 770 overclock
    CPU: 78-81

I did remove the screen in between the case slots and fan intake, factory paste job looked pretty average with no big flaws. Improvement was huge, better than I hoped.

The interesting thing is, and I haven't done too much testing, is I set the clock all the way up to 1080, the max it would allow me to go, and set the memory to 850, and I got NO artifacting and my heat didn't get past 71C.

I'll have to do more testing when I get back, and see how far I CAN push this thing.

The temp improvement is impressive. However after looking at the tutorial found somewhere in this forum, I don't think I have the courage to do all these myself.

Imho the only tricky part is getting the palmrest / top plate snapped off... I followed the tutorial, but at that point I used a soft gift card (no screwdrivers) and just worked it around working each top plate snap loose with no problem. It was actually quite a bit easier than most other laptops I've had with snap-in parts.

Another tip is to use a little blob of poster adhesive on the tip of your screwdriver to hold the screws, makes assembling the tiny screws much easier without worrying about dropping them.

Beyond that, everything is note-taking and working with the small screws and connectors. If you have a big work area, you can just print off the write up, layout each page, and put the screws there. Easy.

This is the second performance laptop I've had (HP HDX16T) that has seen ~20deg drops from a simple repaste. My .02 is that if you want to OC or tend to keep your laptops for a long time, this is a skill worth learning. ~20C operating drops are a big deal, more performance potential (OC, less CPU throttling), usage benefits (lower temps, less fan noise), and increased durability (fan wear, and heat kills everything, on board caps, HDD's, battery, everything). Even the Latitude D620 I had years back saw 15C drops.

To be honest I'm surprised Dell's cheap thermal paste is saving them more after considering all the impact +20deg temps must have to warranty / customer complaints.

Hi, I don't know how is GT555M on XPS 17 when it run games DX11. I did not sew any way comment about that.
can it run good on games DX11 yet?
    does it good for a gaming laptop with GT555M 3GB DDR3. I hope it's DDR5
    can XPS 17 update GT460M ?
does GT555M same which card on desktop?
    and 1GB DDR5 & 3GB DDR3 which is better ?

XPS GPUs are soldered to the mobo. No graphics upgrade possible.

The 555m is a DDR3 card almost everywhere, no one sells it with DDR5 afaik. Yes, it supports it, but no one bothers for a low-high/high-mid tier GPU.

No, the 555m is not the same as the desktop version. It is a bit stronger than a desktop 9800GT 1GB card I can say, as I had that card once and this thing runs very similar aside from having DX11.

3GB VRAM on the 555m is marketing. It doesn't use more than 1.5 GB even if you hammer it, it just isn't that strong. I'd take a DDR5 version even if it was 1GB, but it doesn't exist except in manufacturer testing.
