I wonder if somebody has the same situation as I do. I have new XPS 17 L702 dell with Intel Advanced-N 6230 card. When I check BIOS I don’t see the options "WIRELESS" to manage the wireless card status. In windows ( Device Manager ) all wireless/ Bluetooth devices are functional.

I run dell diagnostic test on start up and in “PCI Devices” one of the option was “Other Network Controller” instead something like “Intel Advanced-N 6230 device”. This tells me that BIOS for some reasons doesn’t recognize the wireless card. So do I have faulty mobo or this is something else?

    any thought will be appreciated.

The default BIOS is a simplified version. It has the very basic info.

If you are able to see it in device manger in windows, you shouldn't be worried at all.

Thank you for reply Falco, I still worry because dell tec support guy has asked me to read available option from bios – he was looking for ‘WIRELESS’ option.

I wonder, guys if anybody also has missing ‘WIRELES’ option in bios.

I suggest looking for a different tech support person then.

Also, that bios option exist in business class laptop but not the consumer class.

Can you post a screen shot of your problem? From what I understood is your driver for the network card is missing?
Is this a factory install (original) or a clean install?

Other Network Controller implies either your wireless or wired or both drivers are missing.

Why should I look for other TS person if he asked legitimate question (which I asked myself in the first place).
I’m inclining to the fact that this bios option does not exist for laptop of this class.
As I mentioned before the wireless card is working fine in Win 7. In my understanding the boot diagnostic test does not use Win drivers, it has the own tools to scan hardware with help of bios.

That support rep is probably reading from a generic script and doesn't know specific details of the BIOS. Try a different rep, you'll probably get a different answer. There was countless times I've contacted Dell to have them tell me one answer then turn around and tell me something different.

What is your issue anyways? Trying to manage the Wireless Card from BIOS? You can disable it and enable it with the Fn+F2 combo.

I'm running the diagnostic test as well and will let you know my results. You are running the one from F12 right?

To make a long story short, originally I have built dell XPS 17 L701 i5 560M, 4 GB RAM, GF 435M 1 GB, Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200... After working ~3 hours fan started blow the smell of burning electronics. So dell replaced it with XPS 17 L702 system that has SB and Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230. Before I shipped L701 back I have time to compare these laptops. This is how I found that BIOS and start up diagnostic do not recognize exact name of my wireless card. I also noticed that dell flush screen on L702 ~1 sec shorter than was on L701, that may explain (I assume) the missing BIOS functionality in L702.
I guess my problem is just curiosity that gives me extra headache. :D The card works fine in Win.
Yes, I run diagnostic from F12, and it was short test. I’ll try to run the full test when I’ll have time.
