    Complete XPS noob here... but I found that my Qosmio actually has the same exact dimensions for the Dell XPS 17 L701X connectors and everything.

    I've found a 1080p Matte model for pretty cheap, bout $73 new... is this a decent 1080p screen worth upgrading to? :eek:

    Depends; what is your current model and what is the model (part nr.) you're looking at? Dell mixes-and-matches many different panels in the same model laptop (even CCFL and LED), so ymmv, depending on the actual screen.

    NBR doesn't mention the Qosmio's panel, so look it up with HWiNFO:

    Okay so HWiNFO says the model: SAMSUNG 173KT01-T01

    All I know is, that this particular screen sucks massive balls. I want a better color gamut and a MUCH better overall screen in the end. Yeah 900p is the limit of what the 560M can handle, but I can scale back in games as needed. I shouldn't have to worry about such a shoddy screen in any gaming laptop, no matter how old it is.

    Compared to what I had in the M17x R3, this screen is horrid. :( But from what I can gather, people have used the HANNSTAR HSD173PUW1 in the G73 notebooks and someone else managed to upgrade their old XPS 17 L701X with this screen. Using reverse logic with the guy who upgraded his X775 with the 1080p XPS panel, I figure I can get the Qosmio to fit this thing. And yes, I looked up the LED/CCFL differences. It's an LED panel I need.

    Looking at the Qosmio's review, that panel is indeed rather abysmal. The HSD173PUW1-A01 looks like a good improvement, so you could go with that. The AUO B173HW01 V4 would be even better though, but it's a gamble as to whether or not your system can handle the extra power draw.

    Here's all three panel's specifications, side-by-side. Mind that you cannot compare all NBR's panel values; some are done using X-Rite and others with Gossen Mavo-Monitor. Gamut can be compared though (note reversal grid/colour ...);
