Just thought i would post this info, following a chat with tech support today...

I have a dead XPS 17 (see thread "20min XPS dead")... Was sorting out with tech support about replacement today and stated that I needed a direct one-for-one replacement and stated that my current model has the 4xdimm sockets, and wanted to ensure that i got the same back in the new model..

The tech support agent informed me that as I have the 3d model with 3gb nvidia, I would *definately* get the same back, stating the 3d models are the only ones which are shipped with the stacked 4xdimm sockets.

Now I suppose this makes sense- having read on various threads on this forum, it appears that only the 3d xps 17 has these sockets- can others possibly validate? They told me to keep the 3d glasses and just prepare the laptop box for collection on 13th (friday....!!!) Jan.. Hopefully the new will be the same spec wise as the current model (ie: tv tuner, etc)

This was discussed a lot when L702X was first shipped in the "Dell XPS 17 (L702x) Thread" and dedicated threads.

    It's true.

This has been generally confirmed by users over the months. A 3d system is unfortunately the only guaranteed way to get 4 dimm slots.
