I have a brand new Dell XPS 17 and I noticed the specs say the webcam is HD, but I can't figure out how to get an HD image. I've tried Skype (latest 5.x version), MSN (Windows Live 2011), Yahoo Messenger...

What do I have to do to get an HD image out of it? The device manager lists the webcam as "Integrated Webcam". Do I need a better driver?

As far as I know, Skype automatically adjusts the video resolution depending on the network speed. If you just want to confirm that your webcam is HD, try launching Dell Webcam Central and go to Record Videos. Then below the video screen, click on the arrow next to the record button. Under Video size, you should be able to choose 1280x720 HD H.264.

The XPS 17 shoots at 720p via the webcam, but as southdrexel said, the quality through Skype and similar is bandwidth limited. Try what he recommends, you should be getting 720p out.
