I looking to buy a Dell XPS 1710 7950GTX on a refurb.
It seems to be still a very good, budget now, but good gaming laptop.
It will have XP SP3 on it.
my question is what about Win7 support when in gets released
(I'm one of those skipping Vista, going XP to Win7)
Dell's drivers are at best 8 months old now.

I loved my 1710 - until it crapped out on me. Lasted 2 years. If you can get it for a great price, and I mean lower than 700 bucks - then it might be worthwhile. The low-end 1730 is 900 bucks so keep that in mind.
Also remember you will be very limited on improving the rigs performance. The best you could hope for is a T2600G (or is it T7600G - I forget...) which was the unlocked, BIOS overclockable CPU they offered back then. The 7950 GTX is a good card and the best you'll find for the system. If it takes a dump, Dell may not be able to replace it - not even sure you can still find em on fleabay.
As for W7, I don't know. The specs Micro$oft has laid out for W7 say it should be ok... but then again who knows.
If it were me, and money was an issue - I'd go with the low end 1730. At least you can dump another HDD in for dual HDD's. Also allows more room to grow the CPU choices and you could always dump 8800's into the system @ a later date. -
I have a E8500 3.12 C2D with SLi'd x2 9800GT cards for a gaming rig.
The XPS wold just be something portable to lug around, not a main machine.
Its priced in £ as its a UK shop.
converted to $ its about $900
1730 is £200 pre tax.
so if you can point me the way of a US refurb place that'll ship to the UK ?
XPS 1710 Still a good one ?
